Another dog or not?

    Another dog or not?

    Hi Everyone,

Sorry if this question was already adressed, but I'm new here and I'm torn about whether to get another dog or not. I have a wonderful, sweet, playful, etc. Shih Tzu who's my best pal. He's so smart and we are attached to each other. I'm home with him during the day for the most part and we spend a lot of time together. I've been considering getting a Shih Tzu puppy for him and because I just love them and dogs and animals in general. I mean I guess no one knows how different dogs are going to react, but I was wondering if anyone would tell me their opinion about if dogs like another dog pal or not or should I say would a dog that has the spolied 24/7 attention like mine has like another pup or not? Also, I know this sounds a little crazy and selfish, but I don't know if another pup would greatly change the dynamics of  the special bond we share. He's been my baby since I brought him home 3 1/2 yrs. ago and I treat him as such. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you so much for your time. [:)]

I think dogs do just fine in multiples.  I have had multiples 2 or 3 my entire adult life.  The dogs do just fine with it.  You do need to be careful to respect the alot of time (new puppies tend to draw alot) but put that puppy away to sleep.  Use that time to establish one on one activity with the older dog.  Give the older dog preference (pet first, feed first, treat first etc.) and it usually goes just fine.

Thanks. That's helpful. I'm getting the feeling the pros are more than the cons.
