    Bad Neighbors

We have some neighbors down the street that moved in around June.  Since this time, they have oozed over the entire street.  They park junk cars up and down the street, they have trashed their yard which eventually blows down to ours and worse of all they now have 3 families living in their house.

Okay what does this have to do with dogs?  They have a cocker and a Chihuahua that run loose in the neighborhood.  I have seen them chase and nip at kids that pass by, they go into other people#%92s yard and will bark at your until you leave your own yard. The last two times Madi and I have walked they have chased us, Madi  has never acted aggressively but I know she is annoyed.  I generally act the alpha role and stand up to them.  Last night they followed us home into the garage barking the entire time.  I was so proud of Madi she just ignored them but what if it was another dog?  When I ask the neighbors to come get the dogs they run over and hug on Madi and hit their dogs.  The dogs are not wearing collars and I do not think they understand English.

Two nights ago the Chihuahua was in out driveway challenging me to get out of the driveway.  I stood my ground, and he got the clue.

Any ideas on what to do?  I have already changed the way we go on walks but I have to go by the house no matter what to get home.  They will run down the street, across the street, or wait under the cars for us.  They will get hurt, someday the families#%92 kids will get hurt and they are making the neighborhood look bad.  Any ideas are greatly appreciated.  My husband was so mad last night he wanted to knock on their door.  None of the adults speak English, so when you do speak with them you have to address the 8 year old daughter.  I am so worried and frustrated!

no habla espanol? just kidding! i would definally contact someone about this, a young child could get seriously bitten, and the way they have their dogs (running freely and apperantly not cared about) they might not have their proper shots. you should contact the someone but warn them that they don't speak english.

Wow that's a sad story.  I'm not sure what kind of advice to give you since you can't communicate with the adults and they are the ones who need to change behavior.  Do you perhaps know anyone that does speak Spanish that could talk to them on your behalf?

I'm also very sad that they hit their dogs [:(]

Is there a leash law? If so you could report the violation. You can also complain about the trash and junk cars.Even in my very small neighborhood they have laws against this sort of thing. If they get enough complaints somebody might do something.

You should be able to contact your city animal control, they can talk to the people. Usually they have bilingual people working for them as well. It is a danger to everyone, and it shouldn't matter if there are leash laws or not. They are concidered a public nusience.
You should also be able to contact your local government office about the trash in the yard.
    Good luck!

3 families living in the same house and none of them speak English.  Hmmmmm.  Imagine that.  Reckon any of us can guess what language they do speak?

    God bless America.

Does your community have a law enforcement outreach program?  If so, they will have bilingual officers that can speak to these people.  Animal control should also be contacted, but make sure that you stress that these individuals speak a different language.

What you are seeing and living through is a culture clash.  What is acceptable in their country is unacceptable in ours.  If the officers come out they can and will explain the consequences of these families' inactions.

I'm sorry this is happening to you, but I admire the way you're handling it.
