Question about flies

    Question about flies

This is a really stupid question.   Out of nowhere, part of our beach has become infested with flies - the kind that bite.   It has been getting progressively worse in the evenings, but now they're there all the time after about 9AM.   Today I went down there and people were RUNNING away from the beach with their dogs, warning me not to go down there and saying there was a dog bleeding from the flies!    Anyway, does anyone know how long this sort of thing lasts?    Until it gets colder?

We went to the ravine instead and Louise had the best day ever.

I'd guess they'll probably stick around until the weather gets cooler.  Are you guys having a typical sticky Toronto August?

I don't mean to be disgusting, but is there anything there which could be attracting the flies, like a dead squirrel or something?  Or even a doggie trash can that hasn't been emptied recently?  I'd check for those if you can bear the flies long enough.

Glad Louise had a good day anyway.  Did she get muddy again?

Sometimes weird *buggy* things just happen.  I remember a few years ago the central valley in CA had an awful fly infestation - you couldn't even eat outside in the evening.  There didn't seem to be anything in particular attracting them.  The little buggers were just there.  As soon as the weather cooled down, they all disappeared.

Thanks, guys.   Sometimes dead fish wash up and there are some people who don't pick up their poop, but I think it's more the weather.   Hopefully they'll go away soon - they're awful!

Of course Louise got muddy again, but she did get a very drastic haircut yesterday and has almost no fur left!     At least she's easier to clean.
