    Seat covers/seat belts

I drive a 4 door sedan and I'm curious to see if anyone has found a doggy seat cover that works really well for this kind of car? I tried a cover where you could still use the seatbelt, but the dogs seemed to slide around on the material. It also didn't attach to the seat very well and the dogs just slid off onto the floor.

The cover I have now is one of those hammock types--it covers the floorboards, which I really like, but it doesn't have the holes for the seat belts. (I bought it on dog.com btw)

I have not used harness for the dogs in the car, which I know is a bad thing. I'd like to start using them, because Odin has started trying to jump in the front seat all the time while I'm driving. I still want to have a seat cover, though. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would definately recommend harnessing them.  All it takes is one quick stop / or being rear-ended and the dogs can go thru the windshield.  What about just using an old blanket or sheets that can be washed easily?

I just lay a towel down over the seats.  It's easy to remove/clean/rotate, plus you never find yourself with a wet, muddy dog and no way to towel him off!

Yeah, I definitely want to start harnassing them. I know how dangerous it is to ride around with them loose in the car. I really like the "hammock" style cover I've got on now, so if I just used a blanket or towels, they'd lose all that room that they can use over the floorboards now. I also like that the cover I've got is semi waterproof, so if they're extra gross, it doesn't seep through to the seat.

When our youngest son played football, I used twin sheets on the van seats- one on the back of the seat, and one on the seat part.  That way the seatbelts could still be used.  As for harnesses, I used Premier's Surefit harness and their seatbelt connecter (it looks like a short seatbelt that plugs in where you plug your seatbelt in).  I snapped the connecter to the harness ring that was between Mick's front legs.  That way, if I ever slammed the brakes on, Mick would be pulled down instead of backwards (luckily, I never had to test it).
