This from a book called The Secret Lives of Dogs
Running Around After Baths
Even dogs who enjoy baths will usually emerge from the water with a burst of super canine speed. They shake like crazy, then lunge for something dry--carpets or couches when they're inside or pathes of dirt when they're out--to rub and squirm against. Sometimes, they're dirt again before all their fur is dry.
"When you bathe dogs, you have them totally controlled," says Bernadine Cruz, a veterinarian in Luguna Hills, California. "When they finally get our of the water, they're like kids who have been turned loose on the playground after being cooped up all day."
The whole concept of baths is lost on dogs. They're perfectly happy when their skin and fur are well-coated with their natural scents and oils, along with whatever they've been rolling around in lately. "The last thing they want is frou-frou perfume on them and water in their ears," says Dr. Thomas.
Dogs who tear around madly after baths are probably trying to make themselves smell more like dogs again, which is why they often roll their wet, newly clean selves in the dirtiest stuff they can find.
My dog does the exact same thing.
