Update: Taking stray kitten or not? Please some help...

I took the kitten to my vet this afternoon. First of all.....it is a BOY!! He has been given wormer, flea pill, and kitten shots. He is staying the night to be neutered in the morning. The vet says that he is about 8 weeks old. My vet does pediatric neutering. She promised that the kitten will be fine.

As for the kitten finding a home, the consensus here is he will be our new member of the family. His name is Static. He got the name because he clung to me like static cling whenever he was picked up. I will post pictures of him in a few days. He is a Russian Blue. He is so tiny and has quite a squeak of a kitten meow.

Anyway, can anybody give me advice on how to get him acclimated to our house, the dogs and the cats? I am also wondering where do I put his food and water? I do not think he can jump to the counter yet. Will it be easy to litter train him?

Thank you again. Static thanks you in advance for the advice as well. I hope we can make him a happy kitten.

Jade Haven. Underneath a corner table in the corner of the living behind an easy chair and a box of newspapers and catalogs. She has a few safe havens, including the closet in our "study" where my clothes, weight bench, and assort oddments are.

It may take a while and let her hide out when necessary. Pretty soon, she will start instigating stuff and committing doggy fauxes pas and make sure you have a strong "off command." It may take a while for everyone to acclimate but it can happen.

Jade looks so sweet. Thank you for those thoughts. There are tons of areas for Static to go in our house, including a few cat trees. We are going to be keeping Static in a bathroom for a few days and the allow him to roam when things are quiet at night.

I will go look at that food. I will not need much. My other cats are on prescription UR for UTI's. I do not want to put Static on that yet since he is so young. I am going to wait until he is a year to switch him.

I do not think he is a purebred Russian Blue. That just happens to be his coloring. Sorry about that confusion. It is a coloring that isn't found too often that is for sure. Mostly one sees tabby, tortie, calico, solid black, or a mixture of grey and white or black and white. There is a grey long haired tom cat that hangs around the neighborhood. He may be the father.  I have even seen that cat peeking into our house using the laundry room window.

I cannot believe he was named that quickly without ANY argument about a name. I will definitely post pictures of him once he is out and about.

Felidae is an excellent food.  If Trixie could tolerate it, that's what I would be feeding her.

I dont have any advice, I just wanted to say congradulations, you are doing a wonderful thing and it sounds like you are getting a great cat out of it.

Generally it is pretty easy to litter box train a kitten.

I rescued a cat a couple weeks ago, and he was about 8 weeks old. He got neutered last Saturday and everything went wonderfully. I wouldnt worry too much about him getting fixed so early. With the kitten I rescued (ARRGG and might possibly keep) I left him in a room by himself for a couple of days so he could get used to his surroundings. Then I introduced him to the nicest of my cats and then to the rest of the cats. We still havent gotten the dog thing down yet. I will probalby do the same with the dogs, introduce him to the gentlest dog first.

I am waiting for the pictures [:)]

Thank you. This seems to be the summer of pets. We adopted Trinity from the shelter in May and Bubbles, beagle mix, in July. Now, we have Static. I am hoping that no more kittens, cats, puppies or dogs pop up.

My husband was the one who swayed me to keep him and not re-home Static. DH said, "I miss having a tiny ball of fluff. Cats are so independent. I love watching kittens trying things on for size and then getting caught. They hate looking silly but yet they have to ask you for help. Once you help them, they look at you as if to claim that was not me caught up there."

I will have him meet Shannara first since she is much calmer than Bubbles.

    What is your kitten's name?

Ahh well, like you said, it's an unusual color and who knows he probably has some Russian Blue in there. Can't wait to see pics once you get them! [:)]

My (foster) kitten's name is Spencer. It is hard to believe he is the same cat that I trapped a couple weeks ago.

Good luck with Static, I dobut that you will have any problems with him:). Cats are generally pretty easy to litter box train and are generally pretty easy going toward other animals. I will look forward to seeing pictures of him [:)]
