    Need help with new pup

We got a 4 month old German shepherd, and for the most part she's pretty good, we have had her for about a week and a half, and we try to take her with us whenever we can, we also have a 2 year old and she's pretty good around her, but what I was wondering what is the best thing to keep her occupied when we can't take her, we have only left her twice, the first time she really didn't do much, the second she did poop on the floor[:o], which I understand that she still is a puppy, but would it be ok to put her in a basement with a bed and something to keep her busy?[:)]

Not if you like your basement.  I'm dead serious here.  German shepherds are working dogs and if left alone they will find a job to do that is much more amusing to them than playing with toys.  My female was TWO when DS went back to bed.  She ate the sofa.  And I do mean ATE the sofa.  I'd invest in the LARGEST metal crate you can find and get her used to that.  Mine are still crated when we are out.
