Yesterday's scare

    Yesterday's scare

I know you know this, but IT'S HOT! And apparantly, it was hot enough yesterday for the power co. to cut power to certain areas at random times so they could conserve or whatever they do that for. Anyway, our area (at least a 30 mile radius) lost power for several hours yesterday afternoon, and it got so hot inside that it was actually more comfortable outside. So around 5:30ish yesterday, Brett and I took Brown and Grey for a walk to the back of the property so they could do their business and whatnot. After a while, I noticed Grey was leaning when he stood still. I thought it was my imagination at first, but he really was leaning and after a little while he started to stagger. I asked Brett if he saw what Grey was doing, and he said, "No, he's about to lie down." I just stood there staring at him until he collapsed! My heart fell to my toes, and I was about to start crying and to scream at Brett to grab Grey and rush him back to the house when Grey rolled over and started rolling around on the ground! The moron doesn't know how to just lie down (I already knew that because he slams himself to the ground everytime he lies down), but with all the heat and everything, I really did think he had heat exhaustion! Instead, he just kinda has to lean into the ground when he goes to lie down and roll around. He scared me to death, and all he wanted to do was roll in something stinky!! *grumble grumble*

So just for good measure, we hosed off both of them and gave them a bath when we got back to the house. Neither one was thrilled about that, but they both like to be towel dried, so they got over it pretty quickly.

I can see why that scared you, with the heat and all.

Grey, I am glad you're okay - don't scare your mom so bad, silly boy.  Don't want her to have a heart attack, do ya'?

Silly Grey, scaring your mom like that is NOT a good idea!

I'm glad he's OK and it turned out to be nothing.  It's not hot here anymore but when it was I was freaking out about the chance of Ben overheating.

I  worry about the heat too! Now that we know he's all right... I have to say it's a funny mental image, Grey doing a prat fall just to roll around... [sm=rofl.gif]

We've had yet another day topping 100 F. It is now, at 6:22 p.m. CST, a frigid 93 F. We keep Shadow inside in the ac as much as we can. During the day, when we are both at work, he is outside, with a frozen cooler mat, a frozen chew bone, and water with a patio with an aluminum roof on it.

Yeesh, I felt my heart drop as I was reading that.  Thank goodness he's just a goober!  [sm=smile.gif]

Oh, gosh, I just know how helpless and terrified you felt in that one moment.  Somehow it get all magnified and intense - it is like the first time I witnessed Iggy having a seizure.  I'm SO glad for you that it was just Grey being his goofy self!

Grey - try not to startle Mom!!

That must have been scary.  I know how you felt.  Our very first dog got away once and when i found him he was dragging his whole back end.  It looked like he'd lost the use of his left hind leg.  I ran to him and comforted him while he layed there. I knew he had been hit by a car.    I subsequently stood up to yell to my wife for help, she yelled something back, at which point the dog got up and ran to her.  There was nothing wrong.  Strange, but it scared me..

Grey, you silly booger!  I'm so glad it wasn't the heat... you know, that stinky stuff is hard for them to pass up!
