Maggie's first outing

    Maggie's first outing

Maggie went on her first big outing yesterday. As in big I mean more than 2000 people. She did ok. There were some kids who came up and pet her and she did well, sitting and sometimes licking. She even seemed ok when a toddeler came up and was all over her while she was still gettng used to being around that many people.
She did act quite timid, but a lot of things were new to her. There are a few things that she needs to work on. Like she ignores my commands when we are out there. Is there any way I can get her to listen, or is this just something born out of experiance?(She has had no distraction training around others because we didn't have anywhere that offered any training classes at all until June) She would also bark at people toatally randommly. I'm not sure if it was a warning bark, or a friendly bark, because then she would let them pet her, and she is normally timid around adults.
She did really well with the fireworks, running kids, and loud humans, so overall I think she did good for her fist time. Thanks for letting me talk, lol.

Congrats - it sounds like she did pretty well over all.  Good job, Maggie!

As far as distraction training, you can work on that yourself to start at home with a friend's help.  Be armed with treats and take her through her paces while someone else is in your house or yard, singing, whistling, etc.  Do you know the name game?  You want to really work on that - she's going to notice distractions, but you want to her to turn right back to you whenever you say her name or her nickname in that tone.  You want to give her immediate positive reinforcement every time you speak to her in a distracting situation!

The name game is where you say her name and when she looks at you you give her a treat, right? I'll work on that. I need to get more treats though, XD.
