Pet Store Puppies...

I am always reminding myself of how much I don't know. And I'm constantly amazed at how many people know less than I do.

And to be fair, the friend who gave us Shadow may not have known that it is not good to buy from a pet store, though she did care for him, without being able to properly care FOR him, if that makes sense. I didn't know much about it, either. And her family was about to have him pts just to be mean to her. And I've always wanted a dog and have always admired Sibes and Labs. So, born under less than desirable circumstances and living in a truly toxic and lethal environment, the injustice and inhumanity alone could be crushing. We were his last hope. In spite of that, he seems to have a good temperment and adores us as much as we adore him. He does have some shyness issues but I am working with that. But he has been neutered, as I don't plan to be a bubba with a box o pups trying to sell to people who would have no clue as to how to treat him.

The trick now, is to convince other people not to buy. There will always be plenty of pure breeds at breed rescues. And certainly, one can buy from a legitimate breeder. And, to tie into the original post, decent people have bought dogs from pet stores. And the young lady who bought Shadow initially, was well-intentioned and loving in spite of her adopted family. And it all went downhill, to be diverted at the last minute to the Casa del ron2. Technically, it would be quicker to try and shut down pet stores and puppy mills but is eventually more effective to educate the buying public.

I agree with you Ron,,,   And your idea of Michael Madson and people like him. AND Iams....wouldn't it be a great idea for them to speak out against puppy mills...hhhhmmmmm sure going to put that in the list of possible letters!!!

If we could come up with a letter addressed to him or "Animal Planet" and get someone's interest there. Since us working people lack the $1,000,000 it takes to produce a decent commercial, we need to find the people who can wrangle that money and the money it takes to air the commercial.

That is a great idea.  I wish we could figure out how to get ideas all in one place...and place addresses of where we could write...and then have all of us send individual emails or letters to get their attention!

I have just emailed Discovery Channel, the parent of Animal Planet.

Here's the gist of the email:

have noticed that the actor, Michael Madsen, narrates Animal Precinct. It's a great show. As a dog owner and someone who is against the operation of puppy mills and selling dogs in pet stores that are supplied by puppy mills, how hard would it be or what are the logistics of organizing a national ad campaign to educate the public against puppy mills and the pet stores who sell their "product?" Working people don't have the money to produce and air a national ad. But celebs and networks do, or can at least get those with the money to invest.

    We'll see how that goes.

    Wow,,,GREAT RON!!!!
Hope you don't mind if I put this on the other thread....to let anyone know that is NOT following this one,, that there are great ideas out there.
If you get any answers, please let us know!
Wouldn't it be great if we ALL wrote to them?
