dog vomits 30-60 mins after stopping exercise..

Hi, My dog, Star, loves to run at the dog park, pretty much nonstop, for a few hours. She does drink a lot of water while we're there and everything is fine. About 30-60mins after we get home, she then begins gagging and then throwing up what looks mostly like saliva and water. Is there any way to stop this from happening? Does this mean she's running too hard at the park? Too long? Again, she's fine the whole time we're at the park, it doesn't happen until she settles down in her bed. Any input is appreciated.

It sounds like she's drinking water too fast and then it comes back up. Maybe try giving her less water more frequently - just a little at a time but often enough that she stays hydrated. You could also try making her take a few brief breaks, have her drink and then sit with you for a few minutes. Do you come home in the car? That could be contributing to it, she runs around, gulps down a bunch of water, jumps in the car, and then gets sick. Maybe it would help to do a little cool-down slow walk after her run and before the car ride.

I agree... drinking too much too fast. Trixie will run and play like crazy then run inside for a drink. A few minutes of running again and she's throwing up the water not long after. We try to settle her down before she starts gulping water. The cool down slow walk sounds like a good idea!

Actually, I have a different conclusion. My doxie used to do this because she would pule too hard on her collar and it would choke her. now i use a harness and everything is normal. have you considered a harness?
