    Humping Pup

Ok now most of you know that Dixie is 12 weeks old and we have caught her three times humping Daisy who is almost 2.  WHAT is going on? lol  Daisy never humped anything and now Dixie who is half the size of Dixie will climb on her back and hump her.  At first I thought, naw shes just being weird.  But after the second and third time.......nope shes humping. lol
I know that all dogs, male and female, can do this but I thought she was way too young. lol
Anyone want to make this clear for me?? Thanks[:)]

Dixie is trying to display dominane or Daisy, that is the only reason females do it at all.

So Dixie (puppy) is trying to show Daisy she (Dixie) is the boss?
So how do I get her to NOT do this?  OR is there no way to stop it?  Dixie already has a BIG HEAD. lol  Im seriously saying this.  She growls at Daisy and Daisy ALWAYS backs off.  If Daisy is eating and Dixie has finished Dixie will go over and eat Daisys food and Daisy will back off.  So now I separate them...........
If Daisy has a rawhide and Dixie wants it she will walk up and growl and take it from Daisy.  So Dixie thinks she is majorly top dog and I really wish Daisy would put her in her place but NOPE she doesnt do that. lol
So what if anything should I do?
    Thanks

When we brought Odin home, he had just gotten neutered and he humped constantly. Loki was pretty tolerant at first, but after a while it started getting on everyone's nerves. So every time Odin would start to hump, I'd go over and pull him off (I just kept a leash attached to him when he first came home). I say "leave it" and then when he wandered off to do something else, I'd give him a treat and say "good leave it". Eventually he got the idea that I was treating him for not humping and he doesn't do it anymore.

Thanks........I caught her humping her again this AM.  So Ill try just removing her and telling her leave it.  We are beginning to learn leave it so hopefully this will work.  Thanks again

Generally it works better to let the other DOG tell them when they've had enough. In a 12 week old puppy it's really not hardcore dominance as much as trying it out and sexual play...they learn rules and parameters from the other dogs around them.

YOU can teach her not to mount by squirt bottle, whatever...but she may still do it when you are not around. Whereas if the DOG lets her have it for being exceedingly rude (which she is being) she will likely think twice whether supervised or not, next time. Puppies need to get around adult dogs that will tolerate them...but not overly indulge them...they need to learn what is rude and what is not...

If your girl is too complacent then perhaps you can find another vaccinated older dog that will discipline her so she learns what that's all about, and to read and interpret the signs leading up to a "put down". Most really rude (with other dogs)adult dogs I know of live alone, or with exceedingly submissive or just uninterested dogs that do not respond when pushed or abused lol!

This is too funny!  I have the same problem with Duke and Daisy.  Well, Daisy doesn't try to hump Duke, she just humps all of her teddies.  But she too is so dominant over Duke.  She will go up and take things away from him and if he tries to even go near her when she has something she growls and sometimes snaps at him.

Anyways, she started humping at about 10 weeks old.  So I think that it is completely normal.  We too don't really want her to do it, so I just distract her with another toy or get her to chase the ball.
