Honestly, it really depends a lot on the dog. I have known labs that aren't destructive and I've known weims who aren't. But then I've heard horror stories about both. We have a mouthy weim who honestly hasn't destroyed a thing in our house, but he greets us by taking our hand in his mouth and slobbering all over it. It really honestly depends. The only way to have a good chance at knowing whether you'll have a destructive dog or not is to adopt an older rescue dog. Their personalities and traits typically are known by then. A crate will do wonders for keeping the pup from destroying things. And a watchful eye when you're home with them will allow you to catch them in the act and let them know what is appropriate to chew on and what is not. It took us a few months to really fully puppy proof. A dog will turn your life upsidedown for a bit, but honestly I have found it to be one of the most fulfilling things I've ever done.
