Thyroid

• Thyroid cindy w. Posted : 6/28/2006 7:50:38 AM Well we have been on the tapazole compound for 2 weeks and melyia is still vomiting. My question, has anyone opted for the radioactive tx for their cat. The price quote was $1,800.00 I would like to shop around and see if there are any other places that may do it cheaper. Or has anyone had good success with the compound tapazole ? Maybe we havent given it enough time. We had tried the tapazole in pill form, and again vomiting.   We have also changed food several times, solid gold horrific smelling poo, nutro they hated it, Iams they like it but still vomiting, just got california natural will see if it makes a difference (she also has IBD). • marynh Posted : 6/28/2006 5:05:50 PM ask your vet if he can aspirate (think that's the word) the thyroid gland rather than kill it off with radiation. My mother's vet did that for their cat. They couldn't pill him and before they found out about the compounding of meds their vet offered to do the aspiration. He put a needle into the thyroid gland and removed it that way. My parents paid $400 for the procedure and Tinker has been fine and med free for a year. They do have to have his levels checked every 6 months but he's comes out with a gold star. I don't think this practice is common, otherwise I'm sure for the cost it would be used more. • jprinz99 Posted : 7/11/2006 7:19:01 AM It took my cat a few months before the symptoms really lessened (almost gave up on meds) but they did get better. The 6 month mark was about the time it all started to calm down and she finally put on some weight, stopped vomitting regularly and quit peeing up a storm. Still pukes once in awhile now, but vet said some just do that as the meds taste so bitter.
