    3 WEEK OLD KITTEN (HELP)

    Hello,
I have been bottle feeding  this sweet little kitten for about 2 days, It is urinating when I stimulate it,but hasen't pooped yet. We can't see the vet untill in the morning.
Does anyone know of anything I should be doing.

Didn't see this till just now and really had no advice, but hoping vet visit went well.  Let us know!

I have nursed a kitten that was dropped by its mom and abandoned so I know what kind of project you got yourself into.  At three weeks of age, and way too young to be away from mamma there are a couple of things I did that you can do too.  Hopefully you have more than one bottle for the kitten.  Get a couple of cans of soft wet cat food.  Take one bottle nipple and cut some of the tip off.  Take a measuring cup or small container and mix a couple of tablespoons of wet cat food with the kitten milk replacer formula you are using....(please tell me you are not feeding cow's milk) this mixture will be thick and that's why you want to cut a little bit off the tip of the bottle nipple.  Better to cut too little than too much, you can always make another cut to get a better flow.  As kitten nurses, watch for signs of swallowing, and a creamy milk moustache.  :)
Second thing you can do, is actually run the kitten's back half under a warm faucet.  Wash her tummy as that is the real stimulation she needs for her digestive tract.  Many people think its just rubbing the bottom but it is rubbing and massaging the intestines to move food forward.  Don't get her whole body wet, and make sure to gently towel her dry so she doesn't get cold.  Take a damp warm wash cloth and wash her all over including her face.  It promotes bonding and good health too.
Ask the vet for the best guidelines on when to get her completely onto regular solid food.  The extra calories and nutrients from adding a little bit of wet food into her formula will help her gain weight and develope into a healthy cat.
If you can find it, she will snuggle into a piece of faux fur.  You might be able to get a scrap from a Wallyworld or a fabric store and put it into a shoebox from a pair of boots or other big shoes.
I have gone this route many many times from fostering a zillion kitties so I know you have your work cut out but it's not impossible.  (Just expensive)  Good Luck...BTW what did you name kitty??    Jules

I would rather use kitten wet food or mushed kitten chow as to adult cat food. Easier on the tummy.
You can give her just a little finger tip full of Karo syrup to make her have a BM or a little olive oil by mouth to make her have a BM. Sometimes stimulation takes a while. I used to and still do have a dog here that loves babies of any kind and will clean up for me to include making them void. Doggy tongues are GREAT! lol
Other than that, Jules has some great ideas of help. :)

Forpaws you have a good point, esp if you see signs of the trots.  Please no cow product til baby is older.  ( a lot older)
You have made it this far, keep baby well fed, clean, and follow vets advice on vaccines and very importantly do not put off getting baby fixed before in heat.  Mark your calendar and don't forget!!   Send us a pic of your project baby.   Jules

    Good advice Jules. lol

Dustie, I know what you mean when it is feeding time with a kitten that young. I cannot bare to watch cause I get the hysterics with giggles watching them suckle on the nipple. The ears are too much.
Please post a pic of the little one for us to ohhhh and ahhhhhhhh over. I love it when they are that old. Their heads are so round and their fur is so fuzzy. I love em.

OMG that is one cute kitty!!  Reminds me of last summer when I took 2 four week old kitties from the HS because they weren't being taken care of properly.....I tried to give Clyde a bottle and he wanted the milk sooooo bad that he tore off the bottle nipple and I had to wrestle it from him.  He wound up tearing my thumb up pretty bad...lol

Sasha,It is important for you to call any vets office and ask if they have a rehabber that can take them in quickly.
If they have been left out in the elements this long, they probably have already died and if AC is picking them up next week, they are already dead.
Especially if they are new borns. Put them in a box to keep warm and call the vets office. Explain you need someone to pick them up as I am assuming you are not able to drive alone yet and they need help.
    Good luck.

I have good news..i found homes for all three kittens and my mom is letting me keep them until they are about three weeks .. because i read that they shouldnt be separated from the mother until then ..everything worked out fine...thanks for the advice .[;)]

they should stay w/their mom until they are 8 weeks old...not sure if you meant you'll keep them 3 more weeks or until they are 3 weeks old.
Many states it's illegal to give away, or sell, puppies/kittens prior to the age of 8 weeks. But for the well being of the kittens you need to wait until they are 8 weeks old.
Enjoy them....they are fun. And your mom is very nice to let you help these babies and you are wonderful for wanting to help them.
