Gross kitty question: looking for an answer

Hello kitty people!  We have a question: my 4 year old neutered, male cat, Mouse, has a strange response (I think it's strange) to fear or frustration.  When he gets upset or tenses up, (forgive this) poopy water squirts from his bottom.  It is sooooo gross.  My husband got squirted yesterday trying to coax him onto the floor from the coffee table.  What is this?  Is this normal?  Does he need to wear a diaper or what?
    Thanks for your ideas...

Actually it is not really too much of a strange response. When a kitty that is very submissive is a scardy cat like your boy, they will express their anal glands like dogs do in an attempt to make the predator or what ever it is that they are terrified of go away.
Does he do this only to your hubby or any male in the home?
Do you know his background by any chance?

We got Mouse as a small kitten.  He is acutally my husband's cat and doesn't really seem submissive.  I guess he didn't start this (or we never noticed it, yuck) until we got Wrigley (dog).  He doesn't do it every time he gets upset I don't think.  Do all dogs express their anal glands?  Wrigley is male and we haven't noticed this from him either.

Diego did this once, but that was the only time. He just got up from his nap and squirted it all on the floor. Since he didnt have diarrhea and he wasnt sick, I just assumed it was his anal glands.

My one cat had this issue. I never noticed it in a submissive sense. I would be typing at my computer and my cat would walk in between the keyboard and the monitor and when she'd pass I'd smell and notice the anal sac fluid on my monitor. One time I was on my bed and it squirted and hit the wall... that was the last straw. I had tried what the vets recommended: feed only dry high fiber food to bulk up the stool so it would get expressed on its own, take her to the vet regularly to get the anal sacs expressed, etc but nothing helped enough. I couldn't take the smell or the fear of being squirted so I had her anal sacs removed. It's a very dangerous process because one false move and the cat could become incontent.
