One of my cats has strange marks in his eyes. My vet says he's never seen anything quite like it. He said that these marks are on the lenses, but they are NOT cataracts. They look nothing like cataracts, and my cat has always had them, ever since we found him as a very young stray. He's almost 3 now. His name is Buddy.
The marks look like semi-transparent membranes stretching across his pupil. We used to joke that they were cobwebs in his lil' noggin. They look very much like cobwebs! The vet says that these marks (or whatever they are) interfere with his ability to focus, and that he probably has limited vision and very poor depth perception. I've always suspected this. Buddy never jumps, and can never seem to pinpoint your location when you call his name. He creeps along the walls a lot too. Also, he never runs when approached by the dogs. He just stands there, or lays down. This makes him an excellent dog cat! He never elicits a chase response! They dogs love him and accept him as part of their pack.
Has anyone else ever seen or heard of anything like this? My vet said that if we really wanted to know, he could refer Buddy to a specialist. But since they don't bother him (he doesn't know any different) and they've never gotten any worse, my vet said it's not necessary, and that he's not sure if they could or would do anything for Buddy. They just might be able to explain what it is.
I'm just curious, and I'd like to know if anyone has had experience with this sort of thing.
Here's a photo of Buddy:
