Eating dogs in China is uncivilized??? Look what's legal here...

    Hi
I'm a college student and I had to do a college research article and decided to try to find something interesting about animals raised by factory farms (PLEASE do not confuse this with the animals raised on farms that we see grazing in the fields every day - We never see factory farms with millions of animals inside since they make it illegal to go within a mile of them and see their conditions).

I've done 9 months of research on these topics and thought other animal lovers might be interested.  I hope none of you are offended.[:)]

    -----------------------------------------------------------

Think that eating dogs in China is uncivilized??? America = Throwing living male chicks into the trash or into grinders to make dogfood is LEGAL in factory farms because males can't lay eggs when they grow up.

America = Newborn calves are put in crates so tiny that they cannot turn around or walk for 7 months so that their muscles attrify and so that we can half a VERY tender steak or hamburger. They never leave this crate. They are also fed food to induce anemia to make their flesh MORE tender and juicy. They are too weak to walk to slaughter. They are dragged by ropes.

America = The Washington Post (April 10, 2001) stated that 30% of cows are skinned alive while fully conscious, mooing and looking around. Article: "They Die Piece By Piece" (found here: [linkhttp://www.hfa.org/hot_topic/wash_post.html]http://www.hfa.org/hot_topic/wash_post.html[/link] )

Too "uncivilized" to believe? Not for big corporations that want to make lots of money and who handle eleven billion animals per year. This free 5-min documentary was presented to Congress. Watch it here: [linkhttp://www.meat.org]http://www.meat.org[/link]

--Apple_Blossem (a lot of people became offended that I chose this topic to report on, but I hope you find it more interesting than offensive  )

"Poor animals! How jealously they guard their pathetic bodies... that which to us is merely an evening's meal, but to them is life itself."

One reason I eat a lot of wild caught salmon, moose, halibut and other non-factory animals!

Doesn't sound too far from the mark, I stumbled onto a site I think it is called justsaywhoa and it talks about how we (certain american dealers) proffit from europe eating our horses.  A lot of what I saw was pretty graphic and disgusting.  One woman had to go to a slaughterhouse and pick out her horses hide.  I have come to realize that when life isn't sacred, it's just a commodity.  Jules

I quit eating veal (that I absolutely love) about 20 years ago because of factory farm practices.  One of the major reasons I think this is tolerated in the US, folks think meat comes from the grocery store.
I admit I look for free range poultry and grass feed beef whenever I can.  I can even imagine raising sheep for lamb (I love lamb too).  There is a thoughtful way to consume animal protein, we are just not doing it as a society.
