Unbelievable! Crazy driver!

It seems like every day when I go home for lunch, on my way to or from the office I see something SO unbelievably stupid. It never ceases to amaze me. This one was so unbelievable I HAD to share it with you guys.

Here is my (pathetic) illustration:

I am the Blue Square. I am waiting to turn left. My light is red. A guy on a bicycle (pink line guy) pulls up to my left, ON THE MEDIAN (grey rectangles). He never stops, just rides up the median, and hangs a left at the crosswalk (outlined squares). Keep in mind that the traffic is under a full green going perpindicular to me (ie someone could have turned left or right and hit him). So, he stops on that corner (pink X there) for about two secs, and then rides out into the intersection. Their light was yellow, and he ran in front of THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC. Lucky for him, the right turn and straight people were stopping, but the left turn BIG VAN (green square) was in the intersection to turn left on yellow. He started to turn right as this guy on the bike (illegally) tried to dart in front of him.

I SCREAMED, and covered my eyes. As I peeked through my fingers I saw that the bike swerved at the last minute, and the van slammed on brakes. Well, then the van turned. Want to know what just floored me the most?

After the van turned, the biker CHASED the van into the intersection, cursing, screaming, and shaking his fist. Except he didn't have his feet on the pedals... he was running while straddling the bike, holding the bike with one hand, shaking the other.

Reckon he's had a few too many DUI's??

My hands shook for a good hour afterwards.

I see stuff like this more and more, people are actually outraged that everyone around them isn't yielding in some fashion. This includes situations that don't involve driving, like the a notorious case of a burglar sueing a homeowner because he broke his leg while robbing the homeowners house. He fell thru a skylight and broke his leg when he landed in the house from the roof. If I remember right, I think the burglar won. I call it the "Me First Attitude". Jules

that is too bad. as a cyclist, i hate when i see or hear of other cyclists behaving irresponsibly. we get a bad enough rap as is. i suppose this guy (the cyclist) doesnt realize that is governed by the same rules of the road as an automobile.

Well, he wasn't a cyclist in the sense of helmets and cute shorts - I've never seen a real cyclist being stupid like that. He struck me as an "I had too many DUI's and have no license any more" type of guy. And yes, it drives me BONKERS when people on bicycles don't know (or ignore) that they're supposed to obey the same traffic laws as the automobiles. grrrr

if that is the case i am suprised he was riding a bike. most of the dui people around here ride mopeds. which i dont understand. if you are too irresponsible to drive a car how can you be responsible enough to drive ANY motorized vehicle?

Too bad he didn't get hit....I have zero sympathy for stupidity like that, would have felt sorry for the person who hit him, but it would have served him right to get hit and then gotten a ticket for it!!!

The optimist in me hopes the van doesn't miss the next time. It sounds like this guy should receive the Darwin Award.

Ahh the Darwin award.....I thought the same thing but didn't quite have the guts to print it!!! I completely agree!!! Self removal from the gene pool!!! hahahahaaa

Just in case someone else doesn't know, the Darwin Award is given to people, sometimes postuhumously, who have improved the breed of Man by dying before they can procreate.

Or as one of my favorite lines says "500,000 sperm and he was the fastest?"

yeah, I almost hit a stupid bicyclist one day. I was in the right hand lane, going to make a right turn on green and the idiot comes up the SIDEWALK next to me and flys through the road I'm about to turn onto!

I also saw once a guy on a moped make a last minute left turn in front of an SUV! Of course the SUV hit him and he flys off, gets up, starts screaming at the person in the SUV. I was amazed! The moped guy was totally in the wrong because the SUV was almost THROUGH the intersection! The light was turning yellow for moped guy and he wasn't paying attention I guess... such stupidity!!

On my way to school today I saw the ultimate bumper sticker!!! I think that it fits this thread perfectly!!!

"Everyone has the right to be stupid, but you are abusing your priviledge!"

That needs to be on my bumper!!!! hahahahaaa

Between the Darwin award and the Bumper Sticker, I think that should cover this guy. It just never ceases to amaze me the crazy stuff I see while out driving.

Then again, my DH says I always "drive Miss Daisy".
