Char crust anyone?

    Char crust anyone?

This may sound like a really lame thing to post about but if you have ever tried it you probably will NOT find it so silly…[8D]

A week or two ago I decided to buy this dry rub for fish and meats called "Char Crust”.  I had seen it for months at Cost Plus Imports but always put off buying it thinking I would get some when it warms up enough to enjoy the BBQ again.  So tonight I tried it on salmon and still have a symphony of flavors going on in my mouth. It was the BEST dry rub I have ever tasted on fish or any other meat.

Apparently it is kinda a well known product and used by restaurants. Has anyone else ever tried this and if so what flavors do you like best?  We used the "roasted garlic peppercorn” blend and it would be fantastic on any meats actually and I want to try one of their rubs on BBQ'd pork tenderloin soon and I REALLY want to try the new sundried tomato and garlic blend.

It looks like you can contact the company to find out who carries it locally in your area and also you can order online. I HIGHLY recommend this and it would also be outstanding for the summer when you invite company over for a BBQ… they will be oh so impressed![;)]

Thanks Shelly.  It's always nice to hear a firsthand opinion and I love to try different rubs.  My DH is having to cook at the firehouse these days, and this is just the kind of thing he loves to try too.

I had a thought last night that I bet they carry these at local BBQ stores (like down the street from me is a BBQ Galore store). SO if you have any local stores like this you might be able to find it there instead of having to order online...

I really like to make my own rubs.  One of my favorites for fish is based on the Ol' Bay seasoning and I add some other herbs and spices as well.

I'll have to look into this charcrust brand though.  (Too late for the salmon in the fridge right now though...)[sm=coffee.gif]

yummmm.. old bay is GREAT, I love it on fish!  I REALLY like it in shrimp boils!

Ed, since you don't have a BBQ where you live, this charcrust would be perfect because you just rub it all over the fish, then drizzle a tiny bit of olive oil on top of the rub and you can broil it in the oven. The nice thing is that this stuff actually DOES make a crispy crust on the outside of the fish and doesn't allow the fish to get too dried out. DH cooked the fish WAY too long last night (he forgot about it which he normally never does.. he is normally master BBQ guy). Anyway, the fish was still perfectly moist inside.

    Shel,

I made a rub from some brown sugar, old bay, crushed black pepper, kosher salt, garlic powder and lemon zest.  I am pretty sure it's gonna turn out ok.

Xerxes LOVED the salmon last night.  (complete with skin)
