Crafty peoples, help me out...

I think I ordered the same crate - does your fold down?  Maybe mine won't have a handle b/c it's not like you can carry around a GSD, but if there is maybe I'll make a hole for it (or my sister will since she'll be sewing it).

I'm going to make the beds and then wait to pin the cover until the crate arrives.  My cat Beckham is a diva who only sleeps on human or cat beds and he's jealous so I'll probably make him a new bed too.

I'm wondering why the padding is not washable? If its just foam like the stuff for camp matresses, couldn't you just throw it in the shower, soap it up like a sponge and wring it out? That's what i do with my camp mattresses after each summer. It takes about 2 hours to dry if i leave it in the sun, flipping it everyonce in a while. Thats 4" foam.

I don't imagine she has too many potty accidents in her crate does she? Mine don't have any.

Hey! This is dog related isn't it?[;)]

Yes, mine folds down.  We have a bigger crate for our big dog that does not have a handle (diff't brand though).  I think the handle is only on the small one.  I rarely fold hers down.  When we travel, we stuff all the dog stuff in the crate and use it as her suitcase hehe.

I'm not sure if it's washable.  It feels very synthetic to me.  It's that "egg carton" stuff, very porous like a cheap sponge, I don't know what it's really called.  It's different than the closed-cell foam used in backpacking pads.

I don't anticipate any accidents from her, more like accidents from the cats or people spilling stuff, or her going in there with food or a treat and making a mess, or going in with wet/muddy paws....I'd rather be able to just throw the covers in the wash and not have to wash the foam too, but I may just be too lazy to think of a better solution.[:D]

    Yep, it's washable.

Yup washable. In fact I'd imagine you could even throw it in the washer on Gentle and hang it to dry.

Cool, then that saves me a lot of trouble.  So basically since all the materials are washable, I could theoretically throw the whole bed in the wash without taking it apart?

Essentially yes but it may get kind of twisted in there unless the cover was sewn right onto the padding...
