Summer with Kids is Expensive

I had forgotten about the beach by Lake Nasworthy. Also, allowing Alex and Hawke to ride their bikes up and down the alley. Sebastian may be able to too.

I think part of the camp thing is that it is what many in society dictate right now. Keep the kids as busy during the summer as they are during the school year. Frankly, I wish we had year round school with a few weeks off mixed in there.

Yeah, I agree, at least that's the impression I got from the couple I nannied for.  Busy was the norm, except the kids ended up getting totally burned after about a month and then I had to deal with them being grumpy and not wanting to go out.

One of the schools in our disctrict actually changed to a year round school after pressure from parents to try.  I guess everyone that tried it liked it a lot.  They'd have something like eight weeks on, one week off, eight weeks on, one week off....on and on.  They also have childcare programs setup for the weeks off if parents can't take all that vacation time.  If I were a parent, that would be soooooo tempting.

The roving pack of kids in our neighborhood is always at our house eating all my @*#(@ food.

When my boys were yonng they participated in a couple of things each summer - maybe swimming or diving and one of the city sponsored things.  Most of the time they biked around together or went to one of the city pools or the UCD rec pool.  Some of their friends were so over scheduled that I never figured out how they even enjoyed summer.  They were kept so busy from sun-up to sun-down that they never seemed to have any time to just kick back, stay up later and sleep later or just spend some good quality time doing absolutely nothing at all.
