Help - Is she dying?

I have just noticed that Maggie is drinking a lot of water, much more than she used to drink. And her urine seems much darker than it used to be. My question is, is this a serious sign? I have a feeling it is liver or kidney failure. If it is, is it causing her pain? Is liver/kidney failure treatable, or does treatment just pro-long life?

I am really afraid to go to the vet because im almost positive it will be bad news, but i know i have to for maggie. Im going to schedule an appointment in the morning.

It could just be a UTI. Get to the vet tomorrow and try not to worry too much!

I don't have anywhere near the knowledge as some others on this board have... but I have often heard diabetes could be one of the reasons dogs drink more water than normal. I also think you'd notice if Maggie was in some sort of pain. Taking her to the vet is the best idea... I'm sure they can tell you what's making her drink more and why her urine is darker. We'll be hoping it's nothing serious! Keep us posted.

Agreed, take her to the Vet. My dog is in kidney failure, but this sounds more like a UTI to me. You would notice more symptoms with failure. UTI's are uncomfortable for the dog, but totally treatable. Please don't panic until a Vet determines the cause.

Yes, get her to the vet today. But, remember that often dogs will not show any sign of being in pain until they are in excrutiating pain.

If you can catch some urine in a soup ladel you'll spare her the vets invasion trying to get some......and yeah, this sounds like a UTI to me as well.

My beloved Rusty lived with renal failure for almost a year. We did IV fluids at home several times each week. He was more comfortable having it done at home so that's where it was done. Not a huge big deal to do since it's just under the skin(sub q) and can make a world of difference. BUT, find out whats going on BEFORE you panic......

I got her to the vet today about an hour before closing. They decided to keep her for the night, which is okay because she likes them a lot. They said by tomarrow, around noon we should have some definitive answers.

My dog was doing the same thing. Here are some other things to try to take note of: Is she eating? Has she lost/gained weight? Does she seem lethargic or depressed? Has she thrown up? Has she gotten into anything gross or potentially hazardous for her?

My dog has liver failure and therefore high liver enzymes. If your dog isn't experiencing any of these other symptoms then yes it might just be a UTI which I know nothing about. But if she is experiencing any of the other symptoms it's very possible she has something going on with her liver or kidneys. The protocol I have Cody on is just Sam-E and Milk Thistle which are both natural supplements that you can find at any health food store. I also have him on Dr. Dodd's Liver Cleansing Diet which you can goggle to get more information on but it's all normal foods and shouldn't hurt even a dog with no liver problems. I hope this helps! But I would definitely recommend taking your dog to the vet and getting a blood panel done.
