Anyone heard "Dear Mr. President" ???

I was watching Jimmy Kimmel last night and he had Pink on. She sung a song that has apparently been out for a year, but the radio stations will not play it, so it was the first time I have heard it.

Just curious what others think of it. Here it is....

Edited: I am not trying to cause any political dissagreements. I am just curious as to what others think.

couldn't sit thru that so I looked up the lyrics. It rings hollow to me...here's why...

Pink, herself....isn't any less rich than the prez...any less capable of helping the homeless or children or distressed mothers. Bio says she did Gymnastics...which most poor kids can't afford to do...so I have to assume she's always been at least middle class?

Bush is many things....but he did not create homeless people, people unwilling to make the effort to better themselves to make more than minimum wage, etc, etc. I am no Bush supporter..but the guy isn't Satan...and all the problems of this world shouldn't be laid on his doorstep alone.

Better protest songs have been written by people with more talent.

I agree 100% Gina. I really can't stand famous people. They have the power and money to do so much good, and some do but  most of them do the good deed with a camera on them so they get props for the thing they did.

She's actually from around my area, Doylestown to be specific. So, I can say with a good degree of certainty that she was raised in an upper middle class family. I didn't listen to the whole thing, and I am absolutely not a Bush supporter either, but all the world's problems aren't his fault.

I heard the song on her album about a year ago.  I thought it was a pretty cliched as far as lyrics go, but I enjoyed her voice and the acoustic styling of the song.

Bush might not be responsible for the United States' problems, but as the leader of the United States he's probably in a better position to do something about them than Pink is.  I don't see how her background makes her less entitled to talk about what she perceives to be problems than anyone else.  There wasn't anything profoundly deep in the song, but it wasn't profoundly offensive either.

Who said it entitled/didn't entitle her to anything?
LOL...it just makes her message less ;poignant (hence the term "ring hollow"), and that's my and likely..other folks' opinion.

I think it's pretty often the case that pop idols have a lot more impact on youth and JQP attitudes on life and their own futures, than politicians, as well.

which is sad because JQP elected those politicians and other officials to handle these problems. but someone has to sing about them to remind everyone these issues still exist.
i agree with you though, on all front, celebs have the money, maybe not the time, but they've got the $$$ to set up
help for those that need it. And no, Bush shouldnt be blamed for people that dont want to rise above their current status. he shouldnt take flak over people that have made "I Cant" their alma mater.
However, celebs have the money and means, but it shouldnt exactly be their responcibility either. i mean they earned the money, they rose above their station, "bettered themselves" so to speak.. they did it, why cant others?
I think it depends on the personal views and morals of that individual. You have celebs like Oprah out there doing stuff, and then you have people telling you, JQP, or the President, or the Pope, or who ever that THEY need to do something.
i dont think poverty will go away because there are far too many selfish people around. far too many addictive personalities. There are people that you can pull out of the gutter, give them a new suit, new shoes, brand new house, and they just dont care. There's a song by the Monkees (dont laugh at me! i like the Monkees) Called D.W. Washburn and its exactly what i'm saying here. "Get up on your feet" says the people, but DW says "I dont want to, i believe i have it made" ..why should he get up when someone is just going to hand him things?http://colli.tripod.com/birds/DW.html

anyway, i listened to the song and it kinda got my hackles up.. but we dont get into that lol
i like Pink, or i did, but she shouldnt have done that song. someone else maybe, but she of all people.
How does she sleep at at night and dream and hold her head up? i doubt she's spent much time in a cardboard box and probably isnt about to try it out now.
I might have more respect for her if she's the head of a few programs to improve society, if she is then great, otherwise, isnt that the pot calling the kettle black?

Maybe entitle was a poor choice of words, but I get what you're saying.

I think that while pop idols may have some impact on people's attitudes on life, they're impact isn't near the impact of the President's.  I think pop stars have more of an influence on fashion and hair style choices than do on policy concerning minimum wage or other public policy issues.  Maybe one of the problems with our society is that people look to pop idols for social policy solutions than they do the people who are elected to work on these things.
