Tennessee Lady Vols -- 2007 National Champs

It's over a week old now, but I've been away.  In case anyone missed it, Tennessee claimed their seventh national title last Tuesday night, beating Rutgers in the title game.  Candace Parker is truly amazing.  I watched her play against Stanford earlier in the year, and she dunked.  It was great.  The women's game has been a big deal in Knoxville for years, since the University of Tennessee focused on it early and built what many consider to be the dynasty and premiere program in all of women's college basketball.  The experts have already picked Tennessee to win it all again next year, and I'm all for it.  We won three national titles in a row -- '96 through '98 -- and this was our first since then.  Another three peat would be great. [:D]

Is anyone aware of the Tennessee and UConn rivalry?  [;)]  Tennessee has had the edge over the last three meetings, after six straight UConn wins, and Candace even dunked on the Lady Huskies' home court in Hartford back in January.  Doing that to UConn -- on their home court -- was almost sweeter than our win.  [:D]  Sorry, UConn fans, but Tennessee is dominant again.

That is really an amazing record! I don't follow women's college ball, and rarely have the time anymore to watch the men's either, but I can remember TN being a powerhouse for a long time. Congrats to them!

I watched, I watched!!!  And I'll tell you someone I was really impressed with was Shannon Bobbitt... can she shoot or what?  And you'd think she would be at a disadvantage being only 5'2 but if she's left open... she can cause damage!!  I like Candace Parker too... and Nikky Anosike (I like saying her name lol).  Plus, it doesn't hurt having a WV girl on the team too (Alexis Hornbuckle).  [:)]  I've always pulled for the Lady Vols.  Rutgers gave them a little scare in the beginning tho.

As for the Tennessee - UConn rivalry... it's shown all over the papers here because UConn has another WV girl, Renee Montgomery, on the team.

I can't wait to see the Lady Vols play WVU next year!  I might have to cut a WVU and Tennessee shirt in half and sew them together because I love 'em both!  I hope the Lady Vols are dominant for many many years to come!
