Are you a morning person?

    • Gold Top Dog
I am a morning person.  I usually get up at 4:30 a.m. & the dogs & I hit the pool for a 2-3 mile swim.  After that, dogs go out for play time either playing frisbee or ball. Then I shower & get ready for work at 7:30 a.m.

I have not always been a morning person, but when I started training for my first triathalon I realized that my schedule allowed me to train without a hassle in the morning.  I have also noticed that if I work out very hard in the evenings, I have trouble falling to sleep.

I am sooooooo not a morning person!  I have a hard time getting up in the mornings.....I'm just so comfortable.  During the week I have to get up around 5:30a-6:30a (depends on the day).  It makes it reallllllly hard to get up when I don't go to bed until 12a.  I always aim to go to be earlier, but its hard when I have so many things to do (and so little time at nights to do it in).  I will have the hardest time staying awake in the mornings (no matter how much caffiene I have), but once the afternoon hits (usually around 4p) I get my boost of energy.  My weekends I don't do much BUT sleep.  There have been times that I end up doing 12-14 hour sleep binges.  Even after I have those binges I can be up for 2 hours and then take another 2 hour nap!  [&:]

Wow, that's nasty!  I'm a morning person as is pretty much everyone in my field.  I don't even need an alarm clock, I just get up at 4:30 it's wierd.  Even when I'm up for 30 hours and go home, I'm up again at 4.  I kinda wish I could sleep in a little more when I have a day off.  The people who aren't usually can train themselves, but they never seem too happy until after that coffee is ready :)

Are you a morning person? What time do you normally wake up and is it easy for you to get up and out of bed? Am I just destined to live a night life - literally?

Ah hahahahahahah that really is funny to even ask me that question. You have never met less of a morning person then me.

In High School, I was TERRIBLE, I missed soo much school because I lterally could not make myself get up and out of bed. Most of the time I would not even remeber getting up and turning my alarm clock off. I had to set 2 alarm clocks, my phone and my mom's alarm clock, and I still was always always late....as horrible as it is to say it was an extreamly common thing for me not to get to school until 2nd or 3rd per.[:@] That's how bad I am.

And even more embarressing, I even missed my Senior Class Photo because I never woke up. I was so mad. I woke up at around 10:00 ( school started at 7:55.)

I have actually been thinking about going to the doctors for this. I am starting to wonder if I have something wrong with me, because I am literally incapable of getting up. And I have tried going to bed at 9pm..nope nothing works. I still till 11:00 the next day, and could sleep more.

And I will even admit I even got fired from a job because I could not get there on time. It was just last summer and I had just graduated, and it was a real estate office..(at the time I was going to go to Real Estate school) I had to be there at 7:45. Really it was stupid for me to even take the job, heck if I couldn't get up for school...why would I get up for a job!

But as much as I try, it is like I just can not get up. When my alarm clock goes off, I will turn it off, and I really can not even imagine getting up, I am soo tired and I feel as if I have NO energy what so ever. I've had it where I've been in teh shower and have to go back to bed because I can not even function..

Ok I am really thinking I do have a problem after reading my post![&:]

My god do you really get up at 4:30 and go swimming??? I envy you oh so much...but that may be a great idea for me..make someone toss me into the pool when my alarm clock goes off...That would wake me up!!![:D]

The older I get the wiser my BODY seems to get.  When I was younger, I hated mornings, and loved to be up half the night.  As I've gotten older, I can't stay awake at night and I'm up at 5:15 whether I need to be or not.

As a younger woman I was a light sleeper.....the family joke is about the time a pillow got knocked out of my boys bed and I was wide awake and certain that one of them had fallen out of bed......nope, I heard a PILLOW fall!!  Now it takes an act of congress to wake me in the night....that or a ringing phone and THAT wakes me up in a panic.  DH has said I will often get restless in the night and tell my bladder, you can just WAIT!    And if I fall asleep in the recliner watching TV there is little chance I'll ever make it to bed.

Now and then I'll wake up in the middle of the nite.....3-4 seems to be my "bad time", cuz of course that's probably when Mom fell and had the seizures or the other way around.....at least NOW I'm not waking up in a panic, so that's a good thing, and I roll over and fall back asleep.

MORNINGS tho, gosh I love the peace and solitude, the ME time, the quiet and having no one around wanting anything from me.  Tyler and Sheba will watch me until I come into the office and the computer before THEY go to bed....and once in awhile someone will lay in the office with me, but for the most part, they go snuggle with Dad and let me be.  Even when they are in here, no one bothers me....they accept that this is Mom's quiet time and if they stay with me, they lay down and don't bother me.

Early mornings are the ONE part of my day that I can call my very own.

I had to laugh at some of these replies about not being a morning person because they described me so well too.  I was late every day in school.  I was always late for work until I got a job where I don't have to start until afternoon.  My normal schedule is to wake up around 8 or 9, drink coffee for awhile, take the dog for a work and go to work in the afternoon.  I love having a job that allows me to come in later.  I usually get hone around 8 at night and can get so much done after DH goes to bed.
The only days I can get up early without a problem is when we leave for a vacation, which is why I am up now.

Good luck on the marathon.  I did century rides before (100 miles on a bike per day).  When I was training for that I did my training after work, maybe 2-3 hours with longer sessions on the weekends. Maybe that will work for you.

I usually start to crash about at 10:00 and then head to bed.  DH is a night person and sometimes won't come to bed until 1:00 am.  On the weekends I will sleep until about 6:30.

My DH is a night owl too. He seems to live off of 4-5 hours a night. I do not know how he does it.

I love sleeping, but as long as I am off to bed at a decent hour, I don't mind getting up early. Unfortunately, I've been having many late nights which equates to walking the dogs in my pajamas... I don't have the motivation to get dressed, and really... who's watching at 7:00 am? [&:]

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!  But when I do get up early, I usually enjoy the fact that my day is longer.

Yep, I second that. Not a morning person at all, but when I do get up early (and the crabby sleepiness wears off), I do enjoy more time in my day.

O.K. so this morning I tried it again. I did what Gina suggested and put my alarm clock in the bathroom so that I can splash cold water on my face. I still had all my motivational signs and warnings to not go back to bed plastered all over the apartment. I had multiple alarms set all within a 20 minute time frame. I had everything ready to go. I programmed my cd player to a good song and was ready. So the first alarm goes off and . . . .

I jump up, run into the bathroom, turn it off and jump back into bed without so much as even opening an eye. And I repeated that until the damn thing stopped going off, at which point I reset it, again with closed eyes, to go off at the absolute latest time I had to be up. I am pathetic.

I was thinking about the time when I used to be in really good shape and when the thought of missing a workout was unheard of. Back then, I would go to the gym at 11:30 PM and stay until 1 or 2 AM, having to be up by 7:30 AM. It didn't phase me in the slightest. I was able to do it. I look back on that and am amazed that I was such a machine. [:D]  Now, I could do that, but I have Ash and I can't leave her that late. Actually, I should say, I don't WANT to leave her that late. That's when she's used to going to bed to lay down.

I don't know. This is awful. I am horrible. I really, really need to try and change this.

Oh and I read the other posts. I was also awful in high school. I almost didn't graduate because I had been tardy so many times. I had to have an emergency meeting with the principal and BEG him to let me graduate. All because I was always late.

It is so nice to see other morning people.   My family thinks I am nuts.   I love the mornings.  I wake up automatically without an alarm by 4:30 everyday, even weekends.   They always ask me why?  I love watching the world come to life in the mornings.   The sun coming up the birds singing and coming to their feeders.  The rabbits and the squirels get up and start playing.  My hubby is a night owl so it is my quiet time.   In fact I have noticed the last few weeks I have been waking up at 4:00 a.m, guess my body is ready for Daylight Savings already, ha!   I do have to say, I cant stay awake past 9:30 pm, ....
