so our school's executive committee wants to make a donation in her grandma's name to an alzheimer's association that does research or something like that.
The link that Annie gave you for the Alzheimer's Association is the one I was also going to recommend. They do a lot with research. Another thing your school might want to consider is donating locally. Many skilled nursing homes have an Alzheimers unit and you might be able to make a donation for something that they could use to enhance the living situation for patients. It could even be toward a garden area or something to improve the nursing home and make it more enjoyable for the residents. For example

otted plants or a small garden can also be something that the activities people and staff can use with the residents as part of therapy... (ie- the residents can help tend for the garden and there are a lot of other ways this can be used to help with mental stimulation and cognition).
I think it is wonderful that your school wants to donate. My grandfather had severe dementia and passed away about 6 months ago and I also use to work on an Alzheimer's unit in a nursing home so I have spent a lot of time seeing how devastating this disease can be. [&o]
