    What a pain in the.....

Angry Wow buying a house is such a pain. We've been dealing with this mortage company since last year getting everything together so it would be a smooth transaction. Well, everyday this week I spent driving around collecting more papers. I spent $100 in gas this week, when I normally spend $20. So here's what happend......

We get told everything is good, they have everything they need and we will be ready to remove conditions on Friday. (yesterday) We go to the mortgage company Thursday morning to sign papers agreeing to the Lenders terms. The girl tells us "Go ahead and remove conditions."  So yesterday morning our agents calls and asks if we are ready to remove. I said let me double check with the mortgage to make sure all papers have been sent off.

Well, the girl that has handled everything took the day off and we are told  by the manager that things are not done. They need one more piece of  paper. A paper that I have in storage and the only other person with a copy of this document is never in his office. Without this paper we CAN NOT buy a house. SO I'm freaking out. If conditions were not removed yesterday we would ahve lost the house. We go to our storage unit abd pul everything we can out to get to the boxes. Our filing cabinet is no where to be found. I'm thinking its behind the appliences. So I can't get it. I have 4 hours to get it. We drive to the office of our trustee that should have it. He's not in. We drive to the court house, and have to empty our pockets and take off our coats and shoes just to enter the building, just to be told we are in the wrong place. The place we need is 1 hour and 30 minutes away.

At this point I'm a mess. I'm 45 minutes from home, but 10 minutes from my sister so we stop in for a surprise visit. I get online and search the court house I need. In the meantime DH contacts a worker for our trustee to get a copy of this paper. She says she'll call us back.

I talk to the court house they say they can't find it on file but try this number. I try the next number. THEY HAVE IT!!! I beg the man to fax me a copy and he does. I now have the paper at my house. My mother then faxes it to the mortgage company. Now the trustees worker calls back and says "Yeah I can get the paper you need, but it will take 30-40 days and cost $75. WHAT?????  I just got it in ten minutes for free. WTH??

Mortgage company calls says "Okay now you can remove conditions." I call my lawyer to tell her to expect the paperwork. She says she's had it for 3 days. The Lender already approved it and sent it to her. ?????  So all and all the Mortgage company screwed up ( for lack of a better word)  and there was no need for us to go through all that yesterday.

So we have the house, and we still move March 12th.   Phew!!   Can someone send me the stuff Glenda was guarding, I need to relax.Angry

Well aside from all the stress & needless travel yesterday, at least you still have the house. And you only have 9 more days before moving in!!!!!!

It is a crazy complex business, Angel, and I know it was stressful, but it's better they are over cautious than under cautious.  There's nothing worse than actually being at the table and finding out someone has missed something.  To have erred on the side of asking for too much is surely better than being lax and not having what you need in the end!!

I went through a similar fire drill when someone thought I'd need a particular type of housing inspection and it was just a couple of days to closing and I had contractors waiting to start my reno.  So they provide me a list from the county of the certified inspectors and I call and find one who can do it the next morning - he find two really small and easily fixable things we take care of right away and send him pictures so he knows it is done and when he goes to fax in the paperwork, the county tells him they don't need or want it because of the way my property is zoned or classified or something.  Oh, well.  $150 for naught, but the flip side of being surprised to find I needed it at closing would have been much worse.

Very true!! I'm just so glad it's all done.

As soon as I get my puter up and running I'll post more pics. I can't upload from my camera here. I got some really good ones of the yard and the creek. It's so funny, the house is 20 minutes from each of my immediate family members and each one of them drove this weekend to do a drive by. [:D] We are all so excited. My dad is renting a very large truck to move us (B day gift) so we don't have to do 5 trips with trailers. Oh I can't wait.

It's probably about the biggest hassle you'll ever go through.  After you start making house payments, make sure you always have the three most current house payment statements on hand.  If you decide somewhere down the line to do a refi for lower rates, that's one of the things they'll want.  Of course, it would be too much trouble for them to make a couple of phone calls to find this out for themselves.  [:)]
