Requiem for a Dream

Has anyone ever read Requiem for a Dream by Hubert Selby Jr.? I was attracted by the title, but it's not really the sort of book I usually read. I'm thinking of tracking down a copy because it looks pretty good. I'm really not a fan of self-help, inspirational type books, so mostly I'm just making sure it's not like that. Has anyone read this or anything else by the same author? Many thanks in advance if you can tell me anything about it!

Is that the one about druggies they made into a movie with Jennifer Connelly? Hard movie to watch...pretty awful actually.

Yeah, I forgot that it was made into a movie. I sort of expected it to be like that. Thanks for the info. Is there anyone who's read the book?

I have the book, but after seeing the movie I just couldn't bring myself to read it. Sorry I'm not more help. (Now if you want to talk trashy romance novels..I can help)

Haven't read the book, but the movie is fantastic, and the soundtrack is one of my favorites. [

I thought the movie was extraordinary. Harrowing beyond description, but that was the point. I'm not sure I could read the book after seeing the film, but if it yielded this screenplay and movie, it had to be pretty worthwhile.

That movie haunted me. I loved it. One of my favorite films ever because of how well done it was. I do have the book, but have not read it.

I've just Netflixed it! Sounds like my kind of movie. Netflix makes suggestions for other movies based on your choice and for this one they had Trainspotting which is one of my favorite movies. I'll report back after I've watched it.
