    I know what I need to do...but...

I have posted on here before about an assistant manager at work.  I cannot stand him!  I am completely uncomfortable working with him and I get along with pretty much everyone.  I don't really like my manager, but I get along with her well enough to work with her.  But, I am almost afraid of my Asst. Manager.  Today was the day taht I do bird maintenance, that means breaking down every cage, taking it to grooming, washing it, and sanitizing it.  There are 4 big cages that I can do half at a time because of the way they are made.  There are also 2 large glass hex cages.  Today, he had me stay on register so he could go put some labels up, then wondered why I wasn't done with birds yet.  I said "because you had me stay up here an hour while you put up stickers.  Plus, I had to help Allen check in fish and help a couple of customers."  Now, the checking in fish is really his job.  Putting up labels was not a priority, he just hates being on register.  He also hates animals.  When I asked him if he would open small animals so I could get started on maintenance he said (with a very mean look on his face) "I guess, but usually people do two and I stay in the office"  So, I said "yes, but I have bird maintenance."  To that he replied "I hate opening animals."  There have been MANY times he has opened them and left some wihtout food or water...MAJOR MISTAKES.  I and another person are also starting to suspect that he is supplying one other lady at work with drugs.  He left one day because he had to "go get ****'s stuff out of my car."  Now, they are not friends, they rarely talk, and there is no reason for him to have any of her stuff.  He was very sketchy when he was saying this stuff.  He also leaves almost every day when there is no manager on duty.  I know, I just need to call hte hotline and report this, but I am scared.  I just want to know if anyone else has had a situation like this?  Did you report it?  I am going to report it, but I want to know other experiences too.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with a crappy asst. manager every day. I'm sure that can make for a frustrating work day. But you're right: if he is not doing his job properly, especially if it goes hand in hand with animals being cared for properly, you do need to bring it to someone's attention. I would definitely call the hotline and let someone know. I'm sure you can make an anonymous complaint - then there's no way he could find out who filed the report against him. Good luck!

I have not had an issue to that extent.  What about talking to your manager?  Do you think she would do something about it?  If you call the hotline you should have nothing to be scared of (I think they keep that info private).  I would definately report him if I were you.  He doesn't sound like a very good person let a lone a good supervisor.

I wish I could talk to my manager, but I suspect there is something between the two of them.  I have told her at least three times of him not giving food or water and then spraying the cat grass with cologne.  She says "I'll talk to him."  This last time she was like "everyone has had the speech including you."  She was referring to the first time I opened birds, I forgot to change the paper out.  Definitely not life threatening....I HIGHLY doubt she talked to him about the fact that if birds go without food for very long, they can starve very quickly.  I don't think she said anything about the cologne on the cat grass either.  There was one time when my friend and I were talking about how we were mad because she didnt call the vet right away and it caused problems...we never said anything bad directly about her.  But, then the asst. manager told me the next day that some of the visiting managers(it was grand opening) went to her house and told her all of that stuff.  Well, one of those managers is a good friend to the coworker I was talking to, so she called him and he never went over there.  We really think it was the asst. manager who went to her house.  He didnt want me to call her that morning.  He never told me why, but he freaked out when I tried to call her about something, as if he knew she would be completely out of it(which has happened before).  My plan is to act totally normal at work, like I don't have a problem with him at all.  Other people know, but I'm going to pretend that I am cool with him for a while.  That way, when I call and report, then it won't look like it was me who called.

Wow!  It sounds like your management staff is really messed up!  I didn't think it was THAT bad, but geeze!  I would definately call the hotline then.

GOOD PLAN!  He'll never suspect a thing!  [:)]

Agreed, but stick to the facts.  Whatever is speculation has to stay out of it unless they ask you if you want to say anything more.  You're better off keeping your anonymity by going thru the hotline, versus the mgr.

He thinks we're fine.  We had a fight a while back and talked things out.  We had some misunderstandings.  I tried to be a bit more understanding of him since then.  He said to me once "I'm glad we talked that out because since then we've been cool!"  I said "yeah, it really helped."  But, in my head I was thinking "I still don't trust you!"  I just pretend to get along with him since I don't have to deal with him after work.  But, most of my coworkers know I don't like the things he does.  The assistant managers agree with me.  My manager thinks I'm fine with him too.  I'll just keep it that way.  I don't plan on saying the stuff that I "suspect" unless they ask me.  But, I do know for sure, that he went out to his truck at least twice in an 8 hour shift to get Vicodin.  Those are just the two times he told me.  I also know that he leaves us there without a manager, kicks customers out of the store early, makes perverted comments around me, leaves animals without food and water, gives wrong information to customers which has led to the death of at least one hamster, and is just mean in general.  Wow, I think I just made my list of things to report!  Talking this out really helps!
