    Grr Internet rant

I'm very ticked off right now......[sm=banghead002.gif]

For the past three days I haven't been able to get on the stinking internet after 6:00pm and it's been ticking me off that I can't get on. Found out today when I had my brother go pay the bill since it's due Wednesday. They been cutting my off saying I went over the set hours that are given in a 30 period I have never heard this and we haven't been on the internet more then usual. I'm just so sick of dial up this is the second time I have been with a company that has given me the run around. First company left all their customers high and dry with out telling them they will be left without internet for several months and now I'm getting only selected hours on the internet.

What kind of business cuts someone off because they went over set limits which they did not state when I first signed up that I could be on the internet for so many hours nor would they tell my brother how many hours we are allowed each month. They didn't even send me a bloody email stating that I wont be allowed on the internet due this bogus stuff about hours. I have never had problems with them with going over hours until now. Oooh I'm ticked I'm not going to waste my money for dialup and end up with the next three to four days only having internet from 11pm to 6 pm then get cut off again. Which is the time I'm getting off work and be the time I can get back on at 11o'clock I'm usually getting ready for bed. Not to mention it's even slower then usual too.

So I'm hoping that I'm going to be able to get on the net more come Wednesday and I can be able to search for a better internet company that is faster and hopefully doesn't cut you off if you go over stupid set hours. It just ticks me off they would do something like this without letting you know that your only giving set hours each month and cuts you off without no warning at all.

This is what I think of their rotten business.

I sort of know what you're feeling. We've been looking for a high speed internet server for a while now, and everything we try doesn't work out. It's so frustrating! Broadband wireless can't get a signal from our house even though they have 4 towers within 5 miles of us...and Insight said they could get the cable internet for us, but then they came out and said no, they couldn't, that they'd have to run a wire out here or something. So there's all kinds of hold-ups with that too. We're not really having problems with our dial-up, but it's more of a problem that we can't be using up the phone line all of the time, that is getting really frustrating. So I can't recommend anything to you, because not much is working for us right now.

I know how you feel, for the longest time I was using the computers at my college because home dial-up was not worth it and we couldn't get wireless of any kind, DSL or any of that good stuff.  As soon as the phone company conditioned the lines for DSL we got that and have not regretted it since.

Does your local phone company offer DSL?  You could call your phone company and ask about that, usually they have a package deal that includes it in the phone bill (we get ours through Quest).  Basic DSL is really all you need for a home connection so don't let them talk you into anything else.  It can be a bit pricy but after we got that I will never even think of using dial-up.  If you use cable you can also call the cable company and see if they offer anything.

At least you can switch companies, over here in HK there is only one internet/phone company. I know what you are going through. These idiots want to charge us an extra 200US to change from a business to home internet plan, because they will be losing money since we will be going to a cheaper and slower plan. Talk about a monopoly!

who are you with now? i'd like to know who to avoid!

we are with bellsouth dsl, and havent had any problems to speak of. customer service sucks, but that has been the case with all our internet providers. we are on the slowest plan they offer (dsl lite) and it is ok. never been cut off for over the limit hours. i am a little worried though since at&t just reacquired bellsouth. i hope things dont change for the worse.

before the dsl, we were on charter communications internet service (cable co.). it was faster most of the time, but service went down a few times per month. nothing to do with over the limit, just crappy wiring. we were with them for about 3 yrs though and in 2 different states. so we had pretty decent service to keep it that long.

those are really the only 2 broadband options here that i know of.

edit: shh! dont tell any one, but if you have internet through charter, most likely you get expanded basic too. they will tell you otherwise, but we have charter at work and hooked up the tv in the back and cable tv works fine.

That really sounds strange.  Years ago when we had dial up I don't ever remember there being some sort of limit on the hours.

I'm currently with Dragon and I'm not for sure if it's worldwide or not.

Tried to see about DSL through my phone company and it's not avaliable in my area. Neither is Bellsouth, AT&T, and another company.

I hate where I live there is hardly anything that has DSL, still looking when I can . Last place to look is Time Warner, but I will not give up still have 30 days to find better internet.

I agree Joyce it seems really strange that now they just mention this limit on hours now and I have never had problems with hours with this internet company until now. We haven't been on the internet more then usual too. All I know is this stinks and there is something fishy going on.
