Oh yeah, my ex joined at 20 (I was just a baby at 18 [;)]).  He was told by his recruiter that he could be a physical therapy technician.  So, he signed and went thru basic training (barely made it thru that) and when he got out they told him he was going to tech school for medical technician.  He said "yes sir, but then I'll get the physical therapy training?" and they said "uh, no, and you aren't even eligible to crosstrain for 5 years" or something ridiculous like that.  He was devastated, but 20 yrs later, he retired a happy guy and had used the GI bill to get his Bachelors degree in medical administration and now works for one of the biggest hospitals in our area.  Like Callie said, most employers love to hire prior military folks.  They're usually more stable, respectful, hard-working, etc., than the average person.

Dh joined when he was 23 and I was 20. He has been in for 9 years now. Right now, all I have been doing is listening to him and saying that I will support his decision.
