Anybody with Experience with Subarus, or more specifically Impreza WRX Wagon?

BF and I are thinking of trading in our 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee wtih 156,000 miles and problems starting to surface for a 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX wagon (wagon so that we don't lose soooo much space going from SUV to car...)

We need better gas mileage, a smaller car b/c we live in NYC, but still have the all wheel drive for NY winters...  And we wanted the Impreza cause its not all family car wagon... its got quite a bit of sports car mixed in...

My husband has a 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX sedan, and absolutely loves it!! I don't think he has anything negative to say about it. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions you may have about it. I won't be able to answer many specifics, but I can certainly pass the questions along to him for you!

i love the wrx cars. have never had one, but would love to.

i used to work with a guy that drove a subaru wagon (not wrx). that thing was nearly indestructable. i think it was a early-80's model (of course this was in the early 90's). it was ugly as sin. his kids dubbed it the green monster. it was this pukey green color. that was its biggest downfall. it would out pull his ford ranger. he used it to pull some of our customers trucks and vans outta the mud behind our shop. did better in the mud than most 4wd trucks. the only thing that would get it was the ground clearance.

good luck if you guys decide to get it. [:)]

I've got a 1998 Impreza wagon.  I don't think it's a WRX but just regular.  I love it and would buy another Subaru in a heartbeat.  Really mine is a 4-door hatchback more than a wagon, which is what I wanted.  It's great for the winters up here in Alaska (there are like a zillion Subarus up here, they are incredibly popular), is zippy to drive, and has ;plenty of room in the back for gear and dogs.  It's been very, very reliable, too.

We had a Loyale wagon for years.  It went anywhere!  We spent very little $ on it the eleven years we owned it and freinds bought it from us. The Loyales didn't have the acceleration of the WRXs, but they were very dependable.

Thanks guys for all your input!  We are picking up the car today!  Yay!  Ill let you guys know how it turns out...

(though, I am feeling already like Im going to miss my jeep!  Does anyone ever feel like that, sentimental about a car, or am I just crazy??)

No, I'm the same way initially. I admit, I almost feel guilty trading my old car in for a new one! I'm sappy like that though. Trust me, once you're driving around enjoying that new car, the guilt seems to disappear! [:D]

We have a Subaru Forester. It's a hand me down from when my parents got a new car a few years ago: another Forester! So yeah, we're all fans. I have to say that that car has gotten out of some very very sticky situations (literally and figuratively) quite handily.

In both snow and mud, the all wheel drive is just amazing. I was up in Vermont a few summers ago at a big festival that got totally rained out (like unreal torrential amounts of rain for days). To the point that when we got there, in order to park they brought in a tractor pulling a sledge, you drove up on to the sledge, the tractor tractored you out to the middle of a muddy field, you backed off the sledge, and there you were. That was your parking spot for the weekend. We got out of the car and the mud was up to our shins. The next day I thought, I had better move my car now to higher ground ('official parking spot' be damned) or I'm never leaving Vermont. I'll have to stay and become a dairy farmer. All my friends laughed at me and thought I was nuts. Drive a car through over a foot of tractor-rutted mud, over hill and dale, weaving through other parked cars and people walking around and people's campsites? Insane! But damn if that car didn't pull it off. We managed to get out of that field and drive around people parked and people camping and found higher ground. That, my friends, is the power of all-wheel drive!

I had a 1998 Subaru Forester, and man, i still miss that car!  My sister used to call it the "canine mobile".  It was fantastic in any kind of weather, and it was great to fit all the kids in.  Good luck with yours!!!

I cry when I get rid of MOST of my cars!  You should have seen me when my beloved Audi got traded in for my current car ('97 Intrepid).  You would have thougth I was sending a kid off to college.

Subarus are great cars, though most people usually focus on Japan's Big Three -- Honda, Toyota, and Nissan.  My mom's former co-worker had a 1990 Subaru wagon (I want to say Legacy, but I can't remember), and she always bragged about its reliability and general quality.  Before my mom switched to her current job, the co-worker bought a brand new Subaru.

I'm in love with Hondas, and their cars do not even offer four-wheel drive as an option.  It'd be a nice perk, but my Accord has gotten me through plenty of tough times.  With *only* 158,000 miles on the odometer, she's just getting started.  But yeah, I'll be sad when I have to part with her.

Subarus have grown on me since I witnessed an accident not too long ago (which could have been much worse if it wasn't a Subaru that was hit). They really are safe, and that's all that I know about them.

Yes yes yes another person with a subby.  Lol I have an 04 WRB WRX sedan.  I will never ever get rid of my car I'll find somewhere to put it once it dies on me but it better not be for a long, long time.  Very fun car to drive you just have to be careful with the acceleration to fast until you get use to the turbo, this coming from experience lol.  Gas mileage is awesome, but unfortunately you end up about even with some of the middleish ground mpg cars in the long run since you have to buy premium for the WRX.  Oh and if you or your BF ever want to mod the car of if for some reason something does go wrong (heaven forbid) try NASIOC.com forums there is pretty much anything you want to know about WRX...well actually subbys in general or someone who knows the answer.  OH AND WELCOME TO THE SUBBY WORLD [sm=rofl.gif]
