Lol...before we moved we lived within walking distance of this soon to be monstrosity! They were buying up houses for it but stopped JUST short of our neighborhood...oooh snap! We had to sell on our own but managed it and we're SO glad we moved away from it. We now live about 20 min south of it, same city.

This city has mind you NO public transportation...NO buses or trains...NUTHIN! How do they figure these hundreds of thousands of people, will get to the games....here in Texas were the rule is "1 Bubba, 1 truck"?? The traffic is going to be epic....I can see it now! Unreal. Angry

Our news station had a artist concept vid of it and it is  going to look really cool...but wow...the traffic...the lack of transport. This city is going to be needing some serious help!

It's very weird to drive past the construction site...esp at night. There are these MAMMOTH cranes there (at least 10) that are lighted then, and I swear it looks so ominous...like aliens or something. The site is wrapped with black fabric covered fencing so you cannot see in...it's really creepy. Everything that used to be there is of course long gone...but iot was a seedy part of town...wonder where the seedy people all moved? lmao...

I do miss walking to the baseball games tho!

I saw that last night and this morning too on the news...it is going to be VERY cool!  Do you know where it is exactly?  Is it closer to I20 or I30?  I wonder if they will extend the TRE out that direction or maybe add another stop and then have Dart buses or something else to get to it, especially for events.  Wouldn't suprise me at all if they did something like that but I can't remember if there are any stops anywhere near there anyway.  I agree though, the traffic will be dreadful!!

I am actually shocked about building something like this and using that much money when the city needs the money to be used in tons of other areas that benefit the people living there.

off of my soap box now.

I do think the design looks neat though.

How can they justify spending all that money on sometihng like that when there isn't even any public transportation?

Yeah....but they'd need to build stations and run track in Arlington for that...and we have never even had a vote of any kind that I recall on public transport, that hasn't been struck down. People do not want buses because they believe it will enable less savory people to get to more places and thus, increase crimes. Not making this up...actually something I read on the anti site. These same anti's were of course against the stadium.

I've not heard a peep from Arlington on installing public Transport...and it cannot happen without the voters approval as it will require more $$$. Now that is unless they have already included transport in the stadium budget...which I don't know about.

I don't have issue with the place itself...because what was there earlier was really not doing the city any favors. BUT they have really not examined the 'how' at this point and they have less than what 3 years to figure that out. Takes more than 3 years to build a train system and maybe even to map out bus routes and use buses.

So let me see if I understand this correctly, Arlington actually has no buses?  I never realized that!  28 years of living in Fort Worth and I never knew it!  I know our public transportation here is nothing like it is in other cities but I didn't realize when you said there was none, there really was NONE!  I have never lived or worked there, just went to school at UTA but it never even occurred to me!  I was just looking at the stations and there aren't any that are even close to Arlington since most of the TRE stations are heading more north and east so you are probably right.  I am assuming the new stadium is near I-30 since you said you used to live w/in walking distance of the baseball games and that you moved just in time.  That will be REALLY bad traffic wise.  I hate it when I get stuck on 30 after a baseball game but football traffic will be even worse!  I wonder how they have dealt with this with Ameriquest Field or does it not fall under the same rules as far as public transportation goes?

    Crazy I tell ya, Crazy!!!

Nope, no buses that the city owns and runs.

Hooters and a shopping center called Lincoln Square have buses that they run (the Hooters bus is hilarious!), they make a big circle of the ballpark and back again...and I believe the city has some little Rice a Roni trolley thing that runs Sixflags ballpark, hotels...and of course hotels have their own shuttles.

But NO WAY do Rangers games draw like a Cowboys game will. There are NO buses run in Arlington at all...you have Taxi's and Handi-Tran and that's it folks! And they expect to host a Super Bowl here shortly after it opens you can bet....100,000 people!

The stadium sits at 360 and 30...nasty traffic on a GOOD day!

believe it or not, but this was an issue in the suburban county we lived in when we were in the atlanta area. people gave the same excuses for not voting in favor of public transportation (afraid it would bring unsavory people into our area and increase the crime rate). guess what, there were plenty of unsavory people already living there!

asian and latino gangs were already in the area. they were shooting one another at the mall less than 5 miles from our apartment, tagging a wall at the apartment complex across the street fom us. not to mention the shoot out that went down in the upscale neighborhood about 2 miles from my office. dad tried to kidnap his kids from the ex-wife's house and when the cops moved in he started shooting at the cops. luckily no one got hurt even though a school bus full of kids got onto the street before the cops blocked it off.

right before we moved, they finally put in an express bus service. they installed park and ride lots around the area and had buses that went from them to the main train terminal downtown and back. no other stops. before that, we had to drive into the next county to take the train to the braves games.

as for the new stadium... i am not a big fan of domes. i like the semi-dome they have now. besides, how will god watch his favorite team play if there is no hole in the roof?

also, i hate artificial turf. i was hoping with a new stadium they would put grass in.

The new dome will have huge mega screens and a retractable "hole"  [;)]
