    Get the words right MOM!

Well I've been trying to teach Rupert "lay" for awhile. And it never failed whenever he was ready and paying attention to me, and I said "Lay" he ran into his crate. I didn't understand why he was doing this, because it wasn't like he was in trouble, or I was angry or frustrated at him (yet!! [:D]) But then, it clicked tonight. When it's time for bed I say "go LAY down" and direct him to his crate. SOOOO, I got him out and paying attention again and said "Down", and he dropped to the ground. And we did this repeatedly.

I feel like an idiot! [sm=blush.gif]

I went out giggling at what you'd written -- how often we've ALL done that ... or my husband will be using one word and me another.  Sometimes I'm amazed the dog doesn't just look up and say "Will you two make up MY mind for me on what word YOU are gonna use??? Confused here!!!"

Don't feel bad RupsMom.  I did the EXACT same thing to Strauss!  During agility, my command for the A-Frame is "Get Up!" and my Command for moving away from me to take an obstacle is "Get out!"

Well, we were running a standard course during class, and we had an A-Frame for an obstacle.  I said "Get up!" and every time Strauss went AROUND the A-Frame!  I just didn't understand WHY he was doing it until my instructor pointed out that Get Up and Get Out sound VERY similar when running a course.

So, Strauss and I started over, and I used "Climb" for the A-Frame instead.  Guess what?  He went right over!  My dog wasn't technically wrong.  He was doing what he thought he heard.  Can't fault him for that
