    Quitters support

I know we had a thread for this, but can't find it, so...........

I'm quitting tobacco, and actually doing pretty well.  Todd quit cold turkey when he had his procedure last week and hasn't looked back.  However, he WAS pretty well doped up that whole FIRST day while I was trying to function on nerves stretched so tight that you could have bounced a quarter off them......

I'm averaging 4-5 butts per day. This is down from slightly over TWO packs per day..... I made myself some pretty strict rules.  My biggest smoking times have always been on the computer and driving.  No smoking in the house anymore..my rule.  And when I DO go outside to smoke, I can ONLY smoke.  No pulling weeds, no reading, no nothing. BORING!!  And in the van, no smoking at all.  Not  hard on little short trips to town, but going all the way to TC yesterday, I found myself munching HARD on the peppermint hard candies!

I'm curious how the other quitters are doing...WHAT they are doing....and how it's going??

It's going ok...I guess.  For me, the car is the biggest challenge.  I am down from 10 per day to maybe 2.  I just can't do the cold turkey thing like my DH (he's a Todd too) did 5 years ago.  For some reason, I just can't give up the 2 I allow myself.  I know that sounds stupid, but I just can't!  The car is the only place I do, so I think once I can get past that, I will be in the clear!

I don't at work or at home anymore, so in that way, I'm doing OK.

The way I get through it, is to brush my teeth.  I know that sounds stupid, but I read it somewhere once and it does work when you get a craving.  It #1 keeps your hands busy when you get the urge and #2 you don't feel like "dirtying" your mouth right after.

I quit cold turkey a couple of years ago.  At times though, I still REALLY want a cigarette.  Like with a beer.

I think you really have to want to quit.  My wife and I both quit at pretty much the same time.  It was the money we were burning that motivated us.

    Good luck.

See, the money thing is not an isssue with us since we are now getting cartons for free. I wnet from smoking  a pack a day to smoking 5 cigs a day. I can't crack the morning smoke. I don't smoke in the car or house, So I am smoking outside. I have always hated smoking outside in the winter, so hopefully those 5 smokes I'm having will easily be dropped because I wont want to freeze outside anymore.

Plus it has helped because I'm babysitting again and I don't smoke around the kids. And I'm writting a book. So I have been spending lots of time on the computer instead of outside reading with a smoke. I'm cleaning alot. I can't seem to sit still for to long I have to keep busy.

That morning one is TOUGH to give up.  I can't smoke in the morning now until I read all my email....that means it's at least an hour before I get that morning smoke.....

Well, if you were like me and nobody liked you, you would be able to fire up that first smoke in the morning as your feet hit the floor.  [:D]

Good luck to everyone trying to quit smoking!  I've never smoked but have just as much trouble with ice-cream, chips and carbs!

I have a friend who has a grandson that lives on the Indian reserve. So when he visits his grandson he brings home smokes for me.

I try and take my time in the morning. But I just can not skip that morning smoke. I don't drink coffee, I don't eat breakfast. So mymorning smoke is everything.

Good luck everyone! I'm glad you're trying to quit. If you need more incentive, look up 'smokers lung' on google images.[:'(]
I'm with willow, I've never smoked, nor will I, but carbs and sweets taste so good!

Glenda, I KNOW you will kick it. You have the RIGHT attitude! Setting up those limits is the way to go.
