I do have both children and dogs, and I must say that this book changed my life w/ dogs. Both of my dogs have proven her right over and over again. And in the quote that Erin points to I wish I had used more of this theory on my son. I'm sorry I haven't read all of the posts in depth, my stupid old eyes are bad today.
Yes you need rules and boundries for both species but I can see that once they are set up, and the understanding happens, (that it is for their own good, ) it's nothing short of miraculous.
Bones is my favorite book of all books dog or not.

my dominant bitch is my smallest dog. She is completely non-violent. The worst I've ever seen her do is give a soft warning growl. She seems to control the other dogs by sheer force of personality. Like the stereotypical fragile old woman who runs everything from behind the scenes and everyone is afraid to say NO to.
