Stained Cement or HW/Laminate Floors

Thanks for all the great responses.  The laminate we are going with is a high quality laminate from a flooring place...not HD or Lowes and is the locking floating kind I think.  Pretty much just like hardwood floors except it will withstand dogs and other traffic.  We looked at hardwoods and bamboo but we were told that they were both too easy to dent and scratch.  Plus, laminate is a little more affordable.  The one room with tile is a real tile floor and we are going with a darker grout color.  I think I have decided against staining the cement for a number of different reasons.

Thanks again for all of your responses.  I researched some of the other suggestions made too.  I never even thought about cork!

If stained cement is done right, its up there with heart of pine and bamboo flooring as far as value goes.  I see the concrete more often in million dollar homes than anything else.  Just the look and convenience make it just as if not more valuable to a buyer than top quality wood.

The baby thing is something to think about but most concrete floors have area rugs and runners.  Some dont, very flashy and modern homes... but I suppose thy dont have the worry of that.

Amy, what does stained concrete look like?  I just keep picturing the way it would look if someone painted their cement garage floor [:D] but if it's in really expensive houses, it has to look better than what I'm thinking.
