Clean Up After Doggie Accident

    Clean Up After Doggie Accident

I'm not sure if this is the right folder, but I'm hoping someone can help me. My dog got sick (throwing up and diarrhea) all over a good portion of my carpet earlier today. Thankfully, the dog now seems to be feeling better, and the vet seems to think there's nothing to worry about.

However, I'm still left with some pretty heavy duty clean up to deal with. I wiped everything up as best I could and saturated everything with Nature's Miracle (the economy size with the battery operated sprayer gun). But the house still smells pretty bad (did I mention she is a big dog? I don't think I've ever seen this much poop come out of one dog).

I'm having Steam Master come tomorrow to clean the carpets professionally, since clearly this requires a professional. They offer a "pet treatment" that more than doubles the cost of the cleaning, and they say "there's no guarantee that it works, though we've had positive feedback from a lot of our clients." Then again, since they're trying to sell it, I don't imagine they'd say that they haven't had positive feedback. : )

If it works, I'd be okay spending the money, but it's a lot of money for something that they say may or may not actually work, and no one I talked to seemed to know what was in the treatment, and whether it's any different from things I can buy for cheap in the pet store or Target.

Does anyone know if the professional carpet cleaners' "pet treatments" work, or if they're any better than Nature's Miracle, or Resolve, or any of the treatments you can buy in a pet store? Is having them shampoo the carpet enough? Any other suggestions? She managed to "drip" all over a fairly big area, which makes spot treating tougher, and the smell is awful (I can't even air out the room because it's raining out).

    Any suggestions cheerfully welcomed!

    Thank you!

We had a similar problem a couple of months ago. It was an "explosive" situation that took a lot of cleaning. [:'(] We cleaned the bulk of it up and then doused it with Simple Solution, blotting and rubbing the stain. It still left a mark and smelled pretty bad, though. So we ended up using our Bissell Steam Cleaner on it and it disappeared!

I imagine that the professionals will do something similar (and probably better), so I'll bet the smell/stain goes away. As far as the "pet treatment", I've never heard of that and couldn't tell you if it would do anything more than the regular cleaning. But we used our own cleaner and it worked, so I'd be inclined to say don't spend the extra money.

Yeah I bought a Bissell steam cleaner (not even the proheat, but the regular) for $100, and it's paid for itself like 100 times over now... I love that thing. Whenever my dogs have accidents, I of course pick up as much as I can, dabbing the rest with a white, damp towel which I have especially for these occassions. After that, I use the bissell "tough stain" stuff in the spray bottle on the stains... just spray it in, and then I wait 10 minutes. While I'm waiting for that, I put the "pet stain and soil" shampoo and water in the steam cleaner container, stick that in and plug it in, and then I just go over it several times until the stain is gone. It hasn't failed me yet, and Eevee just got done having a major accident on the carpet yesterday involving vomit, toxic waste poop.... and blood (needless to say there was an emergency vet visit right after... ) >O_O;<

With all the dogs in our house the steam cleaner is never put away.It stays filled and ready at all times! Well worth the money spent ! It has succesfully cleaned up every mess we had so far except that one time when our Dane had explosive diarhea just as the 6 pound cocker mix decided to sniff her butt.I wont go in to details but i think i would rather have her sprayed by a skunk! Took days and several shampoos to get the smell out!

I have A Bissell also. It works wonderfully on pet stains. Something that I found that neutralizes the odor really well is the [linkhttp://www.epinions.com/Woolite_Pet_Stain_Rug_and_Upholstery_Cleaner/display_~reviews]Woolite Pet Stain Cleaner[/link].

I'm glad your furgirl is feeling better!!

Oh no! Is Eevee alright? What was wrong with her??

She's ok... just didn't quite chew a knuckle bone as much as she should have, got sick, and I rushed her in for X-rays... they found a fragment still in there and now I'm just watching her to make sure it passes... >@_@<

One days Maisie had a bout of the "runs"[:'(] and amazingly i poured clorox anywhere spray on it and the yuky stain disappeared with out messing up the carpet!(I took care of it right away though.)

Well it's good that Eevee's ok. Did they have to do xrays? I posted this on another thread, but Loki hasn't pooped in two days (except little squirty stuff that does not equal what he has eaten), so I'm worried that he may have eaten a rock or something. We may have to take him in to find out what's wrong. He's eating fine, though, and doesn't act sick at all.

On the carpet cleaning front, I just wanted to say again how great our Bissell steam cleaner is. Loki threw up some pumpkin last night and there was a huge orange stain on the carpet. Just 10 minutes with the cleaner and it's gone! [:)]

Yup they did Xrays... that darn $1 bone cost me $245. >@_@<

If you're worried, call the vet first and tell them how your dog is acting.. they may think he's fine... if he contiues vomiting then I'd probably worry. >^^;<

Anyway yeah, a carpet steamer is sortof expensive, but it's sooo worth it lol... Pretty much a necessity when you have pets...

Thanks everyone. I suppose with two cats and a large dog, it's time to invest in a steam cleaner, huh?

On the bright side, the Steam Master guys did a pretty good job, it's still not quite dry, but looks like they got the stains (and smell) out. And my furgirl is all bouncy and happy again.

Now if I could just get everyone to stop shedding for a week until the vaccuum is repaired...
