I'd go with liberal use of Petastic.

We use Woolite Pet Stain Remover.  Works great on smell and stains.  As for whole house, if it's that bad, they may have to replace the carpeting....

we are  currently potty-training and having lots of accidents. this past weekend we steam cleaned and used nature's miracle instead of the regular solution. that seemed to help. the longer the pee was left in the beginning the more likely that it soaked through to the sub-flooring, so tashakota may be right about having to replace the carpeting to get rid of the smell.

edit: you could also try contacting a professional carpet cleaning company. they would be able to clean the furniture as well if needed.

I know severl people that own rent houses and they all say the only way to REALLY get rid of pet odor in a house is to re-paint the walls, tear out the carpet and pad and clean the concrete with an acid solution.

If that's not an option, I have heard good things about Petastic.

If you can clean the spot immediately then you shouldn't have a pee smell.  But if the dog goes and you don't find it right away... well yeah, it will soak into subflooring...

Even the professionals can't do much for it...they can only lighten the stain temporaily...it will come back.

Well after having 7 pups run around I tried the "Guarantee" products and still can smell it every now and then. So I used a carpets machine with the pet carpet cleaner in it.

I also used vinager before using the machine. I scrubed the pee spot with a damp rag then poured vinager and let it sit 10 minutes. Soaked that up then used the machine. The smell is gone.

I've used Nature's Miracle and that helped.

My brother actually introduced me to a product called "Go Spot Go". I had lost all faith in any kind of stain/smell remover, having tried (and been dissappointed in) so many kinds.

The situation is actually kind of funny... I was visiting my sister-in-law with my dog, Madison. They have a boxer, Drake, who in a jealous outburst proceeded to hike his leg and pee right on the toe of my tennis shoe. I thought it was hilarious, but they were really embarrased. They got out this "Go Spot Go" and sprayed it on my shoe and the carpet. They offered to wash my shoe, but I had an appointment that I really could not be late for so I just had to deal with it and hope it didn't smell strong enough to notice. I eventually washed my shoe a day later, but even putting the shoe to my nose, you couldn't smell the slightest bit of pee, even though it was pretty soaked. Go figure.

The enzyme cleaners are the best bet.  Nature's Miracle, Petastic and a few others will work if you soak it enough that it doesn't dry before the enzyme has a chance to work.  If there is a trouble spot, soak the spot with the enzyme cleaner and cover with foil so it doesn't dry up overnight and then clean with an extracting machine (I use the Bissel green machine thing.)  With the Nature's Miracle shampoo solution.  Simple Solution is another good one. For old stains & odors you might have to repeat a few times to get the solution all the way to the bottom of the odor.

Siamese Rescue has a smallish shelter in VA
when an event happens there they use OxiClean to clean it up and they swear by ZeroPetOdor (I think that's the name of it).
I hear good things about that stuff.
I've never had any luck wtih Nature's Miracle. When Sadie dawg was alive and had her leaking issues that stuff did nothing for the smell she left behind.

I have a rental unit that was so bad we had to remove part of the floor board to get the cat urine out totally. If it goes though carpet and into the wood it may take more than cleaners.
