    Need some help here.

    Here is the problem:

For the past week after April has been in bed asleep for about 2-3 hours, she starts panting and moving around.  She acts thirsty, I have been taking water into the bedroom to give her when she does that, then of course, she has to go out to wee..  what could be causing this, she has always slept the night through?  I'm worried about Cushings disease?

She is not too warm, we have central air set at 78 and there is a fan above our bed.  She gets a quarter of a begging strip when we first go to bed, have always done this with her.  She eats her dinner about 5-7 whenever she feels hungry and she has been eating.  She does not drink much during the day and there is no excessive peeing.  She has had 2 bladder infections.  The most recent was about 2-3 months ago and has been checked out as okay.

Why is she doing this all of a sudden?  Sure could use some imput on this problem.

The panting and moving about is often seen in larger dogs with early stage bloat. Since she is small I'd wager it's probably gas. and it makes her very uncomfortable and unable to sleep. If you have ever had a bad cramp from gas you know what I mean! The act of moving around probably helps in and of itself. I'd lay off the beggin strips personally as they do give horrible gas to many dogs. I personally wouldn't give her anything before bed if she's having a problem...and se eif it goes away...if it does there's your answer. You can give dogs gas-x, Tums, or mylicon gas drops (for baby humans)...if you are adamant about giving the treat then I'd also give her a dose of one of the former.

Thanks! I'll try something for gas, I switched her to Innova Evo about 3-4 weeks ago was mixing in the old food for awhile now she is getting all Innova, that may be the problem too, I'll try feeding her earlier, if she will eat.  Doubt the beggin strip is doing this, she has been getting that treat for 6 years now with no problems.

have her cardio vascular system checked out. Not sure of her age, but it seems she is moving into middle age.  This interupted sleep is some times the first diagnostic sign of a cardio problem.

    I'm worried about Cushings disease?

I wouldn't worry about Cushings as the culprit based on my Lani's experience with it.  Only a vet could answer for sure but with her Cushings the thirst was constant 24 hours a day, lots of inappropriate elimination - day & night, panting when awake for no apparent reason and an insatiable appetite (she was stealing food off counters that she normally didn't and no matter how I secured it would get into the trash can for scraps).  I'm not a vet so I cannot diagnose your baby just relaying my experience with it - hope it helps.

Thanks Redbird, that puts my mind at ease as she is fine all day long no problems with drinking, weeing or anything and no panting during the day.  You guys have put my mind at ease, I'm going to try to space out her meal to two times a day although she would never eat this way, and I'll pick up something for gas, I think maybe the Innova is doing it.

After the food switch if it still continues I would take the advice from above.   Just to be on the safe side.

I agree, just because the beggin strips didnt do that before doesnt mean it cant be causing issue now.  Good luck!

Well guys, it was not the beggin strips, it is the Innova Evo that is doing it, I think she was in the early stage of bloat!  Gave her chicken and rice last night and a anti-gas tab and she slept the whole night through and she did have her beggin strip too. [:D] I did notice after she ate the Innova, her belly seemed swollen up.  I have not decided what to do about this food yet, think I'll just give her a few pieces now with her old dog food until it is gone.
