Rescue Dogs.

Baily came from Indiana.  He had been found by a woman living in a rural area running lose and alone.  She took him to the local county shelter.  He was only about 4 months old and stayed there for about 6 weeks.  Baily (they called him "Champ") and 74 other dogs were shipped to Minnesota and divided up amongst several rescue groups.  He lived in a foster home with 10 other dogs while he was added to their website (he was at the foster home only about 2 weeks).  We saw him on the website and went New Year's Day 2005 to the adoption event at Petco where we met him and his foster mom.  It took us about 30 seconds to decide he had to come home with us.

The first picture is the day we brought him home (about 6 months old).....second picture was about 3 weeks ago.

Belle was a rescue from Manhattan.  She was found tied up on a rooftop - dehydrated and malnourished at only 20 pounds.  A shelter in Connecticut took her in, and we found her on Petfinder.org.  As you can see below, her adoption photo was very sad and pathetic looking.  Her foster family brought her to our house for a visit - the poor thing still only weighed 30 pounds and had a very bad case of kennel cough.  She had this way of walking up to you as you were kneeling down, and she would stick her head in between your body and your arm and rest her head.  She was so sweet that we couldn't say no.

She's the princess of the house now - spoiled rotten with tons of toys, loves to snuggle, sometimes gets to sleep on the bed, and eats like a machine.  Like Henrietta, she has her own perch to look out the picture window.  My husband built it specifically for her.  She likes nothing better than to lay on her perch while she monitors the neighborhood.  We have oxen that live across the street, and she loves to catch a glimpse of them.  She's topped out at 46 pounds and is very healthy pup.  We figure she's about 2 years old now - we're just waiting for the puppy phase to end.

Blue is a rescue. He was orignal found in Kentucky as a drop box puppy with four other litter mates and his mom where they were soon placed  into a high kill animal shelter, sadly one litter mate died. They were moved to Destiny's Rescue in Ohio and I found out about them through Petfinder. Filled out the papers wanting to get one of the females instead we adopted Blue on Valentine's day at 14 weeks old. Good news all his litter mates and his mother all found homes.  Blue's a happy pup and is attached to my hip pretty much.

First picture is his adoption picture and what he looks like now.

    Sweet Feebie.
We got Feebie in October of 1994 from the human society....she was seized with 11 other puppies from the back yard of a  lady who had them in chicken wire cages.
We lost her June 26 '06.  This is the first time I've posted about her.  I try not to think about her.  She is so missed. I have yet to ;post her story on Rainbow Bridge.  That makes it so final.
It was in September that I got Nina from a locally owned pet store.  It was only after reading on-line about BTs that I realized what I had done.  I was on a BT rescue site and  learned of puppy mills.  I felt so guilty for supporting that. I kept a close eye on Nina's sister (Zoey) everytime I went back to the store to purchase Nina's food.  Each time she was less active, less playful....and getting much bigger.  So I  brought her home.  I probally did wrong by once again purchasing from a pet store....but I could not stand seeing Zoey lose her spunk and I wasn't real sure what would happen to her if I didn't get her.  The first 3 days after we got her was so pityful...she had know idea what grass was, a ball, hugs, kisses. It was a day and half before she actully got up and walked. She was terrified. She would just cling to you if you picked her up. She had lived the first 4 months of her life in a cage but to see her now you'd never know. I will always go rescue from here on out but part of me feels Zoey was a rescue dog also.
Pic of feebie below...the best dog ever!
