    My Latest Project

Here's my latest project; my first venture into thread painting.  It took a LOT of time, but I enjoyed doing it and am looking forward to doing my next thread painting.

Wow.  I mean really, WOW!!!!  The detail on this nearly left me speechless, but I figured no one would know how to interpret a blank post!!!!!

    beautiful work!!!!!

That's gorgeous! Pardon my ignorance, but how did you do it? Is it like embroidery?

That looks amazing!  I'm wondering how it's done, too.  It looks like a combination of a quilted piece and some kind of needlework.  I have a friend who would love to know about something new to try like that.  I can't imagine the time it took you to make that!  Really lovely!

It looks to be crewel embroidery to me.  I used to do a lot of that and know full well how much time it took.  Beautiful job!

    Thanks guys.

Well, it went off to it's new home today.  Gail was thrilled and I made her get it out to show this person or that.  (I know all the agility people who sew; she doesn't)  I told her to take it home tonight and if she didn't bring it back I couldn't tell her to keep dragging it back out again.  [8D]

As far as how it's done, a good place to start if you want to try it yourself is a book called "Simple Thread Painting" by Nancy Prince (google her name for her work).  I didn't really follow those directions, and next time I will do a hybrid of what i did this time and the directions there.  It started off as a panel for the back of a shirt (like I've done with my badsenjis), but then I decided to embellish with thread here and there.  I got carried away and did the whole dog.  I did it on a sewing machine that does NOT have embroidery capablities.  The short story:  zigzag stitch, drop the feed dogs and go.

I used to love to do crewel embroidery.  Haven't done that in years.  I love the look.  Wool thread has such a different look.

    OHHHHhhh....I just love it!

I wish I would have seen this sooner so I could just tell you how great it looks! The thread and the way it's done really does make the beardies fur look so real, the shaggy style.[;)]

I keep coming back to look at it - and I can't believe you have that much control over any machine - especially one without embroidery capability!  Really wonderful!

It is gorgeous, and what talent you have!
