Well, I recently came home from a week long excursion to Hawai'i, specifically the island of Kaua'i. Being the dog lover I am, I have a habit of taking as many pictures as I can of the local dogs whenever I travel (this usually results in some embarassing moments during picture time upon arrival home as I sheepishly fast-forward through the numerous "boring dog pictures" to find more scenery pictures to show friends). But, seeing as you are all dog lovers, here I can show off my Hawaiian dogs without seeing eyes roll. [

This first dog is Pua (her full name is "Pua-something (I forget)" which means "white flower"
;). She is a friend's dog, and a very sweet one at that. The stitches on her ear are from a hematoma she had recently. Poor dog is lucky to be walking, let alone running, as she had surgery on a hind leg a while back and the vets weren't positive she'd walk normally again. She can walk fine with only the slightest sign that anything happened at all to her leg (it's turned out slightly), so the surgery was a great success. I will be doing a portrait of this girl as a thank you present for her owner, who took us on some nice tours of areas of the island.
This next dog is Kiko, an "Australian Border Collie" (?) we met at a botanical garden. He was relaxing in the gift shop and didn't mind having his picture taken.
Next we have two little street mutts that were wandering about the street as we drove by. The brindle one was holding up traffic and I was pretty worried about her, but everyone was driving very, very slowly and luckily she sauntered off the road and moved beside what looked like her sibling as we drove by. The person who wasgiving us a tour said they were probably looking for handouts, so I guess people chuck stuff out car windows to them. Probably not a good habit for the dogs' safety [
]
This next guy was either one of the many strays in the area or someone's pet who was allowed to just wander. He was at a beach where there were a lot of people camping out who owned sort of mangy looking dogs, but he didn't have a collar and didn't seem to be interacting with anyone. He was cute nonetheless, and had an air of experience and wisdom about him; he walked with a slight limp. He was sleeping upside down when I first saw him.
Last but not least, we have the neighbor's dog, one of the many boar hounds in the area. This dog was never tied up (like most of the dogs on the island from what I could tell) and the one time I saw it close up he was walking toward me stiff legged with his head down growling menacingly. Nevertheless, he is a handsome dog and deserved his picture taken, albeit from a safe distance [
]
