Chat - Thanksgiving Week 2014 (Nov. 24)

PS -- Jackie - I am lifting you and Charles up every single day.  Tell Charles to remember    at least he's got a good reason for what he's done.  Every time I see some fella who is 27 and worried so about "male pattern baldness" that they've shaved their heads hoping no one will notice it's a little thin.   He's simply saying "I value life more than hair" -- and .. he rocks!!

Ginger -- I'm so glad you and Ron are mending.

How did so many of us get all medically needy all at once???

Sending Tina some good chocolate and  a really big, hot cup of Starbucks Mocha to supplement the "hoodie"

And Tracy -- there IS life beyond pre-Thanksgiving projects.-- you may just have to look harder for it.  (and a stack on MY desk just fell on me ... trust me, I feel your pain)

Steph?  Aaron's a YEAR??  no, it can NOT be.  I was just thinking about this kids this morning!!  So yes, pictures please?

Karen -- I'm not sure "relax" is in your vocabulary any more ... and I can't exactly tell you to take Bugsy's example in that , cos he's not exactly a couch potato either!

Glenda - it's scarey when I see Tiger Balm patches and think of ... *both* of us LOL

    Take care all!!

I am NOT dreaming of a white Thanksgiving, but am sure going to have one.  Right now it's lovely.....big, fluffy snow flakes gently covering everything.  However, ask me how I feel from it about 16 inches from now!

Around here, stuff comes down on New Years.  My Dad was one of those that the day after Christmas, everything was supposed to go away, but, I like it to stick around, just a little bit longer.  One old gal in our neighborhood was out this morning, as its snowing, mind you, making sure she got her decorations up.  I'm just not that dedicated!

I outdid myself getting stuff ready for Thanksgiving and today have almost nothing to do!  A bit too efficient this year.

Callie, your musical clock story reminded me of a radio station here that started their annual all-day holiday music programming LAST WEEK.  Yup, 24/7 right up 'til Christmas.  When I scan radio stations in my car and it lands on that station, I cannot change it fast enough.  Talk about hearing a rotation of songs way too many times.  I will listen to it the week or two before Christmas!

On the years we have decorated, it's usually mid-December before I rally the energy to do it.  Then we leave it up until New Year's Day since that's the next free day I usually have to deal with taking it all down.  I think the fact that my job has so many year-end deadlines from November through January is a large reason why I avoid much of the holiday prep.

Glenda, I know the snow can be a nuisance, especially for travelers, but I'm jealous!  I remember one year when we lived in CT it snowed heavily on Thanksgiving, and DH had to shovel a path to the grill to cook the turkey.  As for us, we've got some sun peeking through the clouds and they're saying it could reach 62 degrees today.  The weather is nuts.

I worked 3 extra hours yesterday, and I expect another long day today.  I don't want to come in Friday, but I may have to work a couple hours over the weekend.  Otherwise next week will be a nightmare.  Good thing I had no plans to go of town for the long weekend.

For those who won't be popping in tomorrow, have a very Happy Thanksgiving, and I'm grateful for my iDog friends!

How did your parents weather all that snow?  Are they doing alright?

It's hard to believe but it was actually Aaron's 2nd Birthday!  The mind, it boggles.

I have every intention of making a photo thread today, but right now the internet is not cooperating.  I'm trying to upload all the pictures from my phone and it is going VERY SLOW right now.  Hopefully it pics up the pace and I can get something accomplished.

We're hosting Thanksgiving tomorrow.  Mostly so that we don't have to run around all over creation to see everyone.  In some ways I'm looking forward to it, but in others I wish maybe we would have just agreed to drive.

It's usually sometime in Dec. before we get decorations up, and then I usually like to take them down around New Years.  I think DH would be ok if we skipped them all together, but I just love the lights.

Aaron is 2 -- yikes.  But we're not getting any older, right?!

I'm sure this has made the rounds on Facebook and other places, but I heard this story on NPR and then found a link to a video about it.  Talk about the devotion of a dog.  Sure, a major motivation for him was likely food . . . but surely it was more than that.  To stick with the group despite the extreme terrain, etc. -- he wanted the companionship of a pack even more than food.  If this isn't a fantastic story of Thanksgiving and gratitude, I don't know what is!  Definitely tissue-worthy!

OMGosh!!  Thanks so much for sharing that Tracey!  Wonderful and tearjerking story!

    • Gold Top Dog

I had a photo thread done, just had to hit post and then I don't know what happened but it all disappeared.  I'll have to try again next week.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

    @calliecritturs

David doesn't like us to decorate until at least the 3rd week of December, but then he wants it all up til Epiphany.

This is our house, too-the tree usually gets decorated on the 23rd.

We are having nasty, cold rain here--ice, sleet and snow further north and west. The college actually cancelled classes today. There was a 60 mile back-up on the Mass. turnpike last night--thank goodness I didn't have to drive on that road! I got everything timed out for tomorrow, so fingers are crossed that it goes well. There will be 6 total here, which is just perfect.

Jackie and Charles--many good thoughts for you both. I am sure you look great, Charles!

Hi, Steph! Can't wait to see the pictures!

Ginger, I am so glad you and Ron are on the mend!

Bugsy--come on up for a major play date with Ronnie! He might share his toys (but I wouldn't count on it :-)

Tracy, I agree about the early Christmas decorations--the same thing is happening up here, and it seems to get earlier every year everywhere.

    Happy Thanksgiving, all!

9 inches and still falling. Very wet and quite heavy.  A branch from one of the big pines broke off in the back yard....luckily not near the house.

Sure glad I took homemade soup out of the freezer for dinner.....brrrrrr!

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh my.  13 inches and still coming down.  Now one of the birch trees is almost laying on the front stairs.  If it comes down we'll be ok, but if the other birch that is keeping it from falling comes with it, that one will take out the power lines.  Cable and internet are coming and going......

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  Wishing everyone a wonderful day.  Take time, just a minute, to be thankful for the good things in life....and even the not so good things.

I'm thankful for this forum and the friends I have here.  I'm thankful for my loving family.  And I'm thankful for the 34 years we had to love Michael.  I always miss him, just a little bit more on Thanksgiving, since that was the one holiday his wife would let him spend with us, and I'm thankful for all those special memories.  Yep, I'm a little sad that there won't be more, but thank you God for the time you let us borrow him.

It's probably too early for "Bah humbugs" but it is below zero in my back yard , about 6 inches of fluffy white stuff, and I appear to be in a bad mood.  Anyway, gas prices are down and the roads are clear.

Got my cribbage boards done.  May keep the one made from barn board.  I was thinking about ordering card decks with patterns.  There are a lot.  The Bruce Lee patterns for my brother the Ninja, snake skin for my brother the snake wrangler, any Bicycle deck for my son the Tri-athelete,.   Some decks are a little pricy.  I found a couple that go for a mere $500/deck.

Be safe, watch the calories, enjoy the friends and families.  I have a car to load-Jr is coming along and needs his luggage.

Tracy thanks for sharing that great story. Cute dog.

Glenda hope the snow has stopped, especially the set stuff. Too much of that wet snow can take down trees and cause roofs to cave in as well.

Hard to believe I was out raking leaves last weekend. The snow we had was all gone and I had one more bunch of leaves I wanted to get done. Temperature was in the 60's. Thought of Buffalo about 3 hours away with all of their snow and the worry of flooding with the warm up. Guess things didn't get too bad.

Doug you didn't buy one of those decks of cards for $500? Big Smile Can you believe that? Who the heck would want to spend that kind of money on cards? Even the rich and famous, just don't know why someone would buy a deck of cards for that kind of money.

Hope all had a great Thanksgiving. Was just the two of us...well no, as my hairdresser reminded me it wasn't going to be just the two of us...there are all the critters as well, which amounts to 6 cats and 2 dogs. So guess we had a houseful after all.

I agree about the crazy price for a deck of cards.  Even if I did have the kind of money to blow on something like that, I wouldn't do it because I'd be afraid to play with them.  What would you do if a card got torn or bent or lost?  They surely wouldn't make you play any better, so what good are they?!

Hope everyone had a nice day yesterday.  Ours was quiet - MIL was feeling well enough to join us at a local restaurant for dinner, and we had a very tasty meal.  We ate at noon, so we were home and back in our sweatpants by 2:30.  Made some calls to family in CT, watched football games, basically spent the afternoon and evening being lazy.  The weather was way too crummy for a post-meal walk.

No chance in you-know-where that I'd go near stores today, so I've stayed close to home. We still have heavy rain and wind, so no walk today either.  Poor Ruby has had to take very quick potty breaks.  She does not want to be outside today!

Took Sky for a run at the WMA yesterday.  Warm and sunny-no birds.  Great time though.  He quarters and has developed the rocking gait I've watched Rags and Piper use for hunting.  Covers ground easily and is not overly tiring for the dog.  Fun to watch.  About 6 inches of light snow.  We were a little tired when done, but it just plain felt good to get out and move.  Jr slept well last night.

Today is cold and sunny.  We walked to the bank-you have to put money in occasionally if you take money out frequently- and the wind was in out faces both ways.  Gusts would puff up my hooded winter coat.  Sky wore his red cover.  He's not sure about wearing it.   Wife was pricing jackets for the hound and decided she could make a few quickly and reasonably priced.  We'll see.

I only put on a couple of pounds for T-day and am trying to walk them off.  Shivering helps. May have to go to work tomorrow.  Really don't want to work without gloves but may have to.  Takes longer and longer for the hands to recover from freezing.

Anyway, Ya sure, you betcha, Uff da!!!!  May take a nap after lunch-practice for retirement.
