First Day of Summer Chatting 6/21/14 and Sunday 6/22

It's a bright sunshiny day here. We're off to run some errands and have lunch somewhere.

Rex is in the dog house. Figuratively speaking. lol I had some dirty laundry on the hallway floor as I did housework in between loads. Rex took a pair of my jeans into his crate and chewed out both pockets to get the treat crumbs. Chewed one side so thoroughly that there's no fixing this pair of jeans.

Beautiful here too and the temp is low 70's.

Ouch on the jeans.  Hope that they weren't favorites.

Trying to find the energy to put my den back together.  The carpet had to be cleaned (yesterday) so I hadn't unpacked anything.  This is the last unsettled room so should get to it.  I'd just rather not.

    Oh Rex!!!

I have not done much of what I should have done today.

I did however take B to an event to support a local rescue that was held at a brewery. I am ever amazed at his love of social events He loves meeting the dogs  and loves all the human attention regardless of which direction it comes from.

And that is about it for today

This morning started out very cool and a bit overcast, but then it cleared and we've got sun and 70's, nice breeze.  Just perfect.

They just showed some coverage on the news about the World's Ugliest Dog contest.  I don't know why, but I always feel sad to see those dogs.  The winner definitely isn't traditionally cute, but he was burned as a puppy, so his poor little face broke my heart.  I hope all the contest entrants have as devoted and affectionate owners as the winner seems to have.  She said she'll use her prize money to pay for medical care of other abused dogs.

Jackie, bummer about your jeans.  My friend's dog once chewed a huge hole in a pair of slacks in the laundry basket that had a piece of wrapped chewing gum in the pocket.

Hope you're settling into your new place, Glenda.

Karen, you sure are lucky to have such a happy-go-lucky dog!

Totally agree on Karen being lucky to have such a happy go lucky dog. I can only dream lol of course I think the grass is always greener right?

Tracy the ugliest dog contest is kind of cute. How sad about the dog being burned as a puppy though. You're right, I hope they all have loving owners.

Not much going on here. I'm immersed in rain and ticks and mud and 90 degrees plus humidity and it's all wonderful ;p I'm having fun with some friends playing with dogs and doing some training. There's 7 dogs here at the cabin so that's providing some entertainment and some challenges.  One of the dogs is new to the "cabin dog pack"  so abbie is posturing to him every chance she gets. She is not picking fights. This dog is very well socialized and he's respecting her postering so I don't quite understand why she is taking so long to accept him. Usually ones a dog gives her the appropriate appeasing gestures she is good to go.  She just seems to want to pick on this dog for some reason. At least she listens to me well when I tell her to knock it off. I'm hoping by tomorrow she will stop bossing him around and just play with him.

One more fairly big job to do and I'm DONE!!  The den is totally unpacked and everything where it belongs.  It really wasn't all that overwhelming, but the thought of 9 boxes full of stuff was just a bit off putting.

Today I'm going to tackle the clothes.  Since the end of April I've been rotating a few things so I didn't have to take a bunch out of plastic that would have to be rewashed.  The first bunch of bug laundry was almost $200.  Mind you, all of it was clean when I moved it into the house of horrors the previous weekend, but it still all had to be laundered in hot water.  So.....today I will give myself the gift of a SELECTION of clothing to wear!  But later, since I'm the only one up and about.

I've been up since 5:55 for some reason.  I was not pleased that the mind wouldn't shut down when the body clearly wanted to, but.......

I think that since I'm the only one up, other than Theo, I might go out and do some playing in the dirt.  The big front flower bed is popping up some dandelion that I'd love to attack.  The homeowner did a lot of work in those gardens and they will be lovely, but they've been badly neglected for the past few years so need some TLC.  She had them weeded, but, ya'll know how dandlions are!  The rose bush needs some pruning and the gorgeous peonies are about spent, so think I'll see what I can do outside.  Not as much fun one handed, but, it's a good challenge!

    Wishing everyone a fantastic day!

True!  I mean it is good and he has always been happy at events however it does make my own experience more difficult. He is not the dog that just lies there soaking it in, he has to 'visit' everyone and check each nook and cranny of the place, his nose is constantly at work and often winds up sniffing people (keep in mind his nose is easily crotch high!) and with his size and power it can be a workout to keep hold of the leash. Yesterday he kicked off a dog play-wrestling match inside a crowed room. Of course everyone (it's a brewery) thought it was hysterical which only egged him on.

One thing that was and is fun is that people are just stunned that he's nearly nine. He doesn't have noticeable graying (there's a bit) and he's so silly. I then tell them that the only reason we can take him into places is because he's 9 - when younger it was too much work! Oops sorry to write so much here about that

It's another misty, sticky, hot morning. Motivation escapes me.

Glenda, I can sympathize with the "limited clothing selection" problem during a move.  When we moved across country, we had a few outfits that fit in a suitcase to tide us over until the moving van arrived 2 weeks after we left the old house.  You get tired of the same jeans and T-shirts!

Julie, the fact that you can even attempt a multi-dog gathering in one house is impressive.  Going to our friends' cabin with only 2 other dogs was stressful for us, due to Ruby's less than ideal behavior.

To hear you talk about ticks makes me realize how lucky we are in this area not to have to deal with them.  They are one of the only things I do not miss about CT!

Karen, I'm sure some of Bugsy's youthful energy and appearance is genetic, but a huge part of it is due to the wonderful care and lifestyle he has with you!

Just came back from a long walk with Ruby and my friend.  DH brought two big boxes of more paperwork from his mother's house.  Seeing the state of this stuff makes it clear she's failing a bit mentally.  Thank doG, she agreed to giving us her checkbook, so my job will be to organize all this stuff and handle it going forward.  I'm glad to help with what I'm naturally good at, versus face-to-face care, since my relationship with MIL isn't particularly close.

It's a nice day, so I can bring the boxes on the patio to sort through them.  I think our shredder will get a workout since so much of the stuff is so old.

    Happy Sunday all!

    I am DONE!!!!

The only thing at all left to do is to hang pictures on the walls.  That I'll do a bit at a time.  So nice to finally feel settled!  And, I have a very organized closet.  YES!
