    Happy Friday! 6/20/14 chat

Guess I'll start today.  First, from yesterday -- Doug, I second Julie's suggestion that you formally kick-off your retirement process.  Just think of all the time you'll have to play with Lugnut, not to mention the human cutie-pies in your family (i.e., grandkids)!

Kate, I can't imagine having to keep Ruby from going after a rabbit if she saw one.  When we take her to one particular park downtown that has a zillion squirrels, she practically dislocates our shoulders trying to drag us in 100 directions to chase them.  I'm glad to hear your pups are getting along so nicely.

Also from yesterday -- you all know how I shun things like smartphones and e-readers.  So, no surprise that I only read real books.  I know a Kindle would be more convenient (DH got one several months ago and was actually reading MORE because of it).  But I cannot give up the whole "book experience."  Earlier this week, I took my bag of books to the used bookstore I love, and while they calculated what my credit would be, I spent a delightful 30 minutes wandering the aisles, looking for a couple titles I'd added to my list.  The pleasure of finding that title and pulling it off the shelf is just too satisfying to replace with clicking a mouse.  The smell, the feel -- it's all part of the reading experience.  So, my nightstand gets buried with stacks of books waiting to be read.

Kind of dreary today -- misty and cool.  Supposed to be nice for the weekend.  No plans for us, other than to gather more files and such from MIL's place.  She's pushed DH's nerves to the limit this week.  She can really be such a difficult, stubborn person (even before we could blame it on being elderly and in poor health)!  Tongue Tied

Tracy, I'm with you on books. I have a very hard time reading on a computer screen after doing it for long hours at work. I can't image an e-reader would be easier. Plus. libraries are still free. Wink

Squirrels at the park provide a huge opportunity to teach "leave it." Shoulder dislocation hurts, lemme tell ya'.

Rainy today. It was a 50/50 chance, so I rode my bike to work this morning. Had to get a ride home at lunch to get my truck so I can take my bike home tonight. By 5:00p the rain will probably stop.

I've been having dreams about euthanizing dogs, some that were mine, some not.  Tongue Tied

I'm hoping to do the detailed sanding on my garage door so I can paint it this weekend.

I love my e-reader.  I love real books too.  Don't make me choose which I like better. :) For non fiction books it's real books all the way. With an e reader, trying to find something you read five chapters back is difficult.  I'm sure there's a way to mark pages with an e reader but I prefer folding a page or highlighting things I want to find again.   I'm a book hoarder so it's best if I don't buy  real books except non fiction.  I think I'm on the library blacklist.  Don't ask me why.

I brought Belle to work today.  She and Gabby are hanging out and helping me with things.  Like eating lunch.  They were both very helpful. lol   Filing didn't go well.  Gabby insisted everything needed to be filed under D for dogs.  Belle wanted to file everything under B for Belle.

I am so glad it's Friday.  Is it 5 yet?  I'm ready for the Tiki Bar.

    Good girls helping Mom

Well tests are back, Hot has a nasty Staph infection, Ron went to pick up a Liquid Antibiotic that is supposed to be nasty tasing but very effective.  Also continuing the Apple Cider/H2O2/H2O combo and keeping it clean and covered. :( He looks at me like do we haz to do dis agin?) Any special tricks or techniques?

Tiki Bar here I come, save me a seat Jackie :)

Gin, lots and lots of treats for Hot when he has to have his foot messed with.  Poor Hot.  I hope the antibiotics clear it up fast.  I don't know how in the world to get nasty tasting liquid medicine down a dog.  I've heard of people using a syringe (no needle of course) and slipping it between their back teeth while gently holding the mouth shut and the head slightly tilted back. I wonder why he couldn't have pill form prescription?

I've got a seat with your name on it Ginger.

Poor Hot -- tell him I know how he feels having to take nasty tasting medicine.  As a kid, I had chronic ear infections, and I still remember how that awful pink liquid antibiotic tasted!  I've heard people say the syringe method does work.  It's worth a try.  Give him some belly rubs from me!

Jackie, I knew you had smart dogs, but I had no idea they knew the alphabet.  Even if their "categorizing" skills need some work, I think they've got some good basic office skills already!  Wink

Tina, we do practice the "leave it" exercise, but it gets to be comical when there are SO many squirrels practically surrounding us.  As fast as we get Ruby to look away from one, another pops into view.  The squirrels at this park are so used to humans (people feed them) that they will get very close to you if you're not watching carefully.  They're cute, but Ruby things they look tasty, not cuddly!  Surprise

Has anyone watched the Jerry Seinfeld podcasts, "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee?"  You can find them online for free.  It's just him driving in a special car (e.g., vintage), with another comedian as a passenger, and they just talk about random stuff.  The ones I saw recently were with Ricky Gervais, Brian Regan, and Alec Baldwin.  All funny.  I saw some more on the website I'll have to watch, like Tina Fey, Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks, Louis CK.  Just one more way to waste time in front of a screen, but at least it involves laughing, which is supposed to be good for us, right?

Tracy, I've seen a few of those Seinfeld podcasts.  I think I'll go watch some now.  I could use some comic relief.

Poor Hot!!! Quick healing vibes going out to him and calming vibes for you.

LOL at Belle & Gabby.  Bugsy's advice would be to sneak and get the file mom is looking at/using and play keepaway. Loads of papers will fly out while you run away and move your head from side to side while taunting the human :)

I've seen some of those Seinfeld clips - pretty funny but I like him

I am having a "FOR GOODNESS SAKES CAN ANYONE DO ANYTHING RIGHT" day. Not good.

No issues from yesterday are resolved AND there is a delay in my car getting here. Grrr

I didn't walk Bugsy this morning as I felt he'd had a lot of miles on those old legs already this week. So to add to my irritation he has been no more than 3 inches from me at any point today and if he collapsed in boredom all I had to do was move and he'd pop up like a creeky jack in the box. LOL It can't be easy being him

4:30 and counting. I wonder if any of the emails I am waiting for will come through, my guess is no

OK --- I just refreshed this page to see if anyone had posted something new, and there's an ad at the bottom for downloading things for Kindle.  Coincidence or creepy internet spying, monitoring what I've typed recently???

Ruby does the jack-in-the-box thing, too.  You may think she's sleeping calmly near your feet while you're reading, checking email, paying bills, whatever.  But if you move even a millimeter in the direction of out of your chair, she instantly springs up, too -- "Where are we going?  What are we going to do now?"  Smile

Creepy internet spying. Yahoo email and Gmail do this. Angry If there is a way to turn it off, I don't know how.

I'm outta here in 5 minutes. Taking Monday off work to take my truck in. A massage is also on the agenda. Have a good weekend!

    (((( Tina ))))

I still cry sometimes about Jessie but never have had the dreams you're having thank goodness!  I hope the dreams (or nightmares) end very soon!

Several weeks ago on a walk, Stuart caught me off guard going after a squirrel and my left shoulder hurt for several days. That's when I got serious with leash training and now he's very good about critters and not pulling at other dogs too.

Ginger; Sending healing vibes for Hot; give him lovin' for me. Must be very painful every time he puts weight on that foot.
