    Monday Chatting 6/16/14

Well the Spurs won the championship. I was asleep. :) DH came and woke me up to tell me the news. Good thing I like the Spurs.

Busier than, well, you know the expression.

I found this totally cool annual plant at Home Depot when I was out shopping on Saturday. I'm calling it a "Brain Plant". Does anyone know what this is? It didn't have a tag, so not only do I not know the name, I don't know if it needs sun, shade, etc.

It looks like a cockscomb.  I've never seen a yellow one.  My grandma used to grow them in full sun.  Hers were always red.

Jackie, you're a genius! That's what it is. Big Smile

I have missed you guys.  New office is quite busy and I am learning lots of new stuff not much time for checking in.

Hot Shot hurt his foot a few weeks ago.  I have been keeping it clean but he wont leave it alone.  This weekend it was bleeding, I wrapped it and treated it like the last time he hurt his foot and Ron took him to the vet today.   They took  a culture and are going to treat it like staph  infection until they get the culture results back. Gave Ron instructions for a special homemade spray to use.  Poor Hot, guess he will need some extra attention for a bit Wink  Could use some of those special IDog vibes for him :)

I quickly glance through the feeds, Did I see that the news on Bugsy was good?

I am going to have to figure out a way to get by here more often.

Take care all, see you as soon as I can

Nice to hear from you, GingerD!  You've been missed around here.  I hope Hot's foot gets better soon, and I hope you can pop in more often.

Tina, I've never seen a plant like that, but it reminds me of a tree we have in our backyard.  It's called Cryptomeria Japonica 'Cristada," and it has those funky brain-coral looking things on it.  I looked up an image to post here, and lo and behold, it's also called a Cockscomb Cryptomeria!

Kind of a hectic weekend.  DH brought home 2 big bags of papers & files he collected from my MIL's apartment.  A few years ago when she moved here, I spent a bunch of time organizing all her paperwork, set up a very simple filing box for her, etc.  (My FIL did everything before he died).  Well, she didn't use it, so now everything is in random piles again.  Something she does that baffles me is she puts all paid bills and bank statements BACK into their envelopes before tucking them away.  How the heck are you supposed to see what anything is, even if you wanted to dig through drawers and cupboards??  I spent yesterday organizing it into folders again, and now we're going to collect all her mail and not let her handle any paperwork.  Sigh.

On a happier note, on Saturday we went to our shelter's annual fun run/walk and had a great time.  Ruby tied for first place in the "My Dog Will Eat Anything" contest.  Some of the weirder things she ate were pickles, walnuts, tangerines, sardines, tofu, and radishes.  I'll see if I can get a photo to post.

Geeked  Yes, I am a genius but very few people know that about me.  Insert sarcasm emoticon. lol

Tracy, that's a neat looking plant. So funny about Ruby tying for first place in that contest.  I bet it would have been a three way tie if Gabby had been there but I'm not sure she'd eat a pickle.

Nice to see you Ginger.  We miss you too.  Sending lots of healing vibes for Hot's foot.

WTG Ruby!!! Cant wait to see pics, made me think of those contest for humans...who can eat the most hot dogs, lol

    • Gold Top Dog

I think Ruby would be tough competition for humans in the hot dog competitions!  For such a skinny girl, she has a huge appetite!  We knew she'd eat the sardines, given her history with bottles of fish oil!  Wink

I've tried several times to post photos, but apparently I can't use the .jpeg format here.  I don't know how to convert it to .jpg.  I don't even know what the difference is!  My friend sent me the photos, and they were in the .jpeg format.

Tina I am laughing that you bought a plant not knowing what it is or where it has to grow lol! Not many people would do that. You are my kind of person :)

Ruby winning the my dog will eat anything contest is always very funny. I can't imagine how funny some of the dog faces were when trying pickles and radishes lol

Abbie and I joined an around town training class tonight. I was feeling oh so tired, lazy and still a little sickly but I forced myself to go anyway. Basically it's a class that meets at different locations outside once a week and you play dog games like heel in a circle and when the instructor yells down all dogs have to drop to a down. The last dog to drop is out. Plus other things like cgc style stuff. Meeting other dogs on the street. Meeting strange humans and so on. Then you walk around town or the park or where ever you might be. Abbie and I didn't totally join in on everything. Mostly we stayed outside the circle and did everything in parallel.  For instance on the heal down game abbie and I stayed on the outside of the circle and did parallel heals and dropped when the instructor called for it but we weren't part of the actual game. Abbies bubble isn't small enough for that type of close quarter stuff yet. It was still great for her to be even in the vicinity of several dogs she doesn't know and not reacting. She had 2 over threshold moments but recovered quickly. All the other dog handlers were really respectful of the space we needed and gave us encouragement. During the stroll through downtown, we brought up the rear and toward the end we walked parallel with a bull dog. Abbie did great. I so appreciated the instructor letting us do our own thing. That was very cool.

After all that an old college friend of mine called! I was so excited to talk to him. We used to hang out all the time but I haven't seen or talked to him in years. He is living in Queens now and is a commercial diver doing underwater bridge inspections. Cool stuff and right up his alley. He invited me out for a long weekend and I'm totally taking him up on that offer. He says he doesn't have a car and rides his bike everywhere. I can't wait. And I was just complaining today that I didn't have any user vacation plans.
