Great weather here, too! What a spring we've had.
I was going to post this in the Behavior/Training area, but it'll likely get buried, so I'll post it here so you guys will see it.
I've shared how Ruby was given "free-roaming" privileges a few months ago after she started busting out of her crate each day. Other than the teddy bear incident (my fault for forgetting to put them out of reach), she's been fine. Yesterday I came home to a disaster. She has never been a counter surfer, and while we don't leave super tempting food on the counters, there are a few things, like her biscuit jar (with a lid), a fruit bowl, and her fish oil bottle.
Well, she decided to have a snack with that bottle and managed to chew off all the plastic bits, as well as puncture the aluminum. She then parked herself in the middle of the living room while slurping her treat, and the rest of the oil soaked into the less-than-2-year old carpeting. If that wasn't enough, she got a tupperware (with a lid) of almonds DH keeps out for his snacks, and she ate maybe 1/2 cup of those. And, we had a few samples of dental chews and treats that the vet gave us after her procedure, and she ate ALL of those (they were in ziplock bags that she shredded). Oh, and then she peed in the dining room!
She was home alone maybe 4 hours, tops. Her usual routine. When I walked in and gasped at the oil lake, she ran into her crate. I left her there for 30 minutes while I called the carpet pros and got info on what to do. Then called the vet. She said nothing was toxic enough to warrant an emergency trip, but she said vomiting or diarrhea was likely. I was awake basically all night listening to every tummy gurgle and burp, but nothing. She ate her breakfast fine, then an hour later threw up a disgusting mess, including many items listed above!
She smells like anchovies and sardines, so does the house, and so do we. Carpet cleaners came this AM and things look okay. We got a new style crate, and she's in that, but I'm worried she'll get hurt today busting out of it. Sigh. DH kept telling her, "It's a good thing you're cute, or you'd be going back to the shelter!" I think she knew what he said because she would go in her crate whenever he said it! He was joking, of course.
Anyway, here is the evidence of her fun:
