Tuesday 3/24 - Return of the Rains

I hope I'm not doubling up on a chat for today -- I couldn't find one amid all the others.

I feel like it's Monday since I was off yesterday.  It was a great day to be out of the office because it was super sunny and in the high 60's.  I spent a good part of the day dealing with medical stuff, but I was able to get home and enjoy some time in the backyard with Ruby for a couple hours before the sun went behind the neighbors fir trees.

I also had a nice chat with my neighbor about the different song birds I've been hearing in our yards.  He's a birder and can identify so many birds by their song.  He showed me an app on his phone that played the different songs of any bird he looked up.  Pretty cool.  But despite my lesson yesterday, the only one I will easily identify is the chickadee's standard song:  chick -a -dee-dee-dee!

The sun has departed for quite a while -- they're saying maybe 10 days of rain in the forecast.  Definitely grey and gloomy, but all the things really taking off in the garden will love it.  Even though Ruby tramples everything doing zoomies in the backyard, I'm hoping the hosta shoots will survive her paws a couple more weeks before they get bigger!

From yesterday -- I didn't know Bugsy was sick.  I hope he's okay!  I also hope GingerD is continuing to do well post-op, too.

Yeah, it's hard to find threads amongst the posts that seem designed to generate interest but get little response.

GingerD is doing better each day and I think the vestibular's syndrome is resolving itself. Her head still tilts to the left, but she's not struggling getting around as much.

I love the birds! When I was a kid, my mom had a bird book and she'd mark the date on the page of the kind it was whenever she saw a new one. I have a book that I look them up in but don't mark it. It's amazing to see what look like regular house sparrows only to see them with binoculars and discover it's a species with yellow markings above the eyes. I don't know all the songs, but do recognize bodies and coloring.  If you have Bob-whites, Tracy, you will also know their distinctive call.

Hope everyone is doing well. I was up way too early today and I'm running out of steam only 2 hours to go! No sun here today, kind of gloomy and we had some snow showers....Spring is coming soon...I HOPE! Have a great afternoon everyone.

Too cold for a run at the WMA today, especially with the breeze.  But, crocuses are poking up through the mulch. I got the fruit trees trimmed, so we're ready for spring.

Just watched Lugnut slither off the sofa.  Usually he launches.  His front end drooped over until the feet touched, then his chest and head.  His rear end slid off slowly and hit with a loud thunk,  And he was comfortably lying -looked asleep-on the floor.  With his long body, maybe he is part snake.,

Got him his first training dummy today.  He seems to love it.  A couple of throws down the hallway-only way out is past me.  Reward reward reward.  Then put it away-not a chew toy.  Got some pheasant scent (how do you milk a pheasant) to get him used to the smell. Then, feathers and the great out doors.

I remember Dad pheasant hunting and bringing the birds home and cleaning them, but for the life of me, I don't recall the taste.  Maybe that's a good thing?  For sure if daddy shot it, we ate it because he wouldn't hunt just for sport.

Gosh, what's wrong with B?? Good thots for a feeling better boy soon.  And I too am glad to hear that Ginger D is recovering well.

Almost the end of March and we're still getting single digit over night temps.  I NEED spring soon!

I don't know what's worse, 10 days of rain and 60 or 10+ days of below 30 (mostly single digit windchills). We were joking today that the high for this year will probably only be 50.once we hit that the temp will start falling again and we will be back in winter.  It was really really cold walking downtown today!

I have a bird app on my phone too. Love it :)

Glad to hear all the sick doggies are doing better.

Cape Cod and the barrier islands (read home of the ultra wealthy, or summer homes of.....) are going to get blasted with strong winds, almost hurricane force, and up to 18 inches of snow in the next 24 hours.  Luckily, all we have are wind advisories here.  But a lot of the East coast is going to get plowed under yet again.

Julie, I'd like the 60's, but 10 days of rain is a darned long time to be soggy.

Think I skipped over post about Bugsy Hope he's doing okay. Yup Tracey you'd know the Bob - whites  call after hearing it once. Tracey Glad you enjoyed the couple videos of Gracey doing her forward roll. Trained using a bit of both..going with what she liked to do and showing her how to do it.

hey all yes thanks Bugsy wasn't well and he seems much better today. He had been sick since last Wednesday and I am fairly spoiled in that if it isn't allergies or a torn ligament he's rarely sick LOL So I was very worried by Monday when he didn't even want to eat. Went to the vet, spent $100, was told nothing ominous seemed to be happening, and was given the choice of some herbal or traditional meds. Went with the herbal ones and he woke up like a lunatic this morning :)

Crappy weather here but we avoided the snow they had predicted.

I was stuck in the middle of a battle for my services today. Awkward to say the least.

I am a contractor so I just have to let the employees battle it out

And to finish my evening Bugsy ate around a half in piece of nail that was apparently in his can of tripe. One of the times I am happy he is so weird LOL

Karen, it's nice to know your talents are in such demand! Glad To hear Bugsy's is feeling better. By "nail," you mean off of whatever animal tripe comes from right? Surely not a carpentry nail? Doug, Ruby slides off the loveseat like that. It's like she's made of caramel. Sometimes she pauses halfway on/off, and she looks like those clocks in the Salvador Dali painting! Julie, I wish our rain was accompanied by temps in the 60s, but warm rain is very rare here. It's 50's or lower, typically. Warm rain like we had in CT is far less of a downer; your bones don't feel cold like they do here. Rain is one reason I saw on some website today that Oregon was rated the worst state to retire (factoring in tax rates, climate, housing expenses, etc.). Glenda, glad you're not getting the worst of the storm. My sister may be affected in Boston!

Boston isn't supposed to get much, so she shouldn't be badly affected....South Shore is getting some.

Compared to our temps, 50's and rain sound decent!!

Beautiful, warm, sunny day here (yesterday was gray and drizzling all day and a tad chilly  We went to my favorite store (Lowes) and got several packs and pots of floweres, mulch, potting soil and another wind chime (I love wind chimes).  Then I spent the afternoon potting the plants and putting some in the ground, mulcihng my rose bushes, ).  Also did some bush trimming

And I spread Scotts Weed and Feed over half the yard--had done the other have day before yesterday and then the rain yesterday prevented me from finishing.  The house catty corner to ours (our corners meet) has been vacant for 2 years and is all but falling in.  Weeds get 5 feet tall, almost to the top of the privacy fency.  Well, this darn stinging nettle grass started showing up in that corner of our yard.  So think you really can't dig it up.  It spread to the yard behind us that baks up to half our back yard, and then to the yard next to them that meets up with the rest of our back yard.  They don't do anything, so it startee coming in our yard all over the back.  Our neighbors on either side put out the Scotts as they get it from those houses behind us as well.  The couple next door is trying to buy that lot and tear that house down and just extend their yard .  They have put in a pool and have a huge covered patio with an outdoor kitchen an even a TV  in a protected area.

    Got more to do tomorrow..

Tracy it was a half inch piece of an actual nail. I am waiting to hear from the company. Tripe is uncleaned stomach from cows so it is likely the cow ate the nail
